Before bed over the past week I've watched 'The Visitation' (which I have a soft-spot for) and 'Black Orchid' - My opinion on it sometimes flip-flops, but ok, it's ok... (I can neither confirm nor deny the fact that I drifted a couple of times during part 2 last night... 'Watching it in bed at 2.15-odd probably didn't help!)
At the moment I'm currently winding down for the night with 'Snakedance' part 1

The Deadly Assassin. Still don't like this, boring story full of boring old white men & boring alien politics that I don't care about. Clunky exposition heavy dialogue & some really bad acting, the bloke playing Castellan is appalling. It desperately wants to be a Gallifreyan version of The Manchurian Candidate but is not well enough written, acted or directed to capture that feeling of an exciting conspiracy thriller. The stuff in the Matrix is all just pointless filler, feeling like an unnecessary extended homage to The Most Dangerous Game. It might have worked with a companion along for the ride to be the viewers surrogate, experiencing Gallifrey & it's customs. I love Tom but a companionless Doctor just does not work.

I also am not the biggest fan of this. I especially dislike the depiction of Gallifrey. Just wasted potential after the awesome introduction of the Time Lords in the War Games.
Here, the mightiest civilization in the universe comes across as quite... pathetic.
However, the Doctor being on his own is by far not the biggest issue with this story...

The Infinite Quest (Alan Barnes)
An interesting experiment which seems to have been forgotten over the years.

The Visitation - Tons of fun. Richard Mace is one of the great missed companion opportunities. Bonus points for Five's first scene being him chewing out Adric for his hilariously incompetent attempt at being a mech pilot in Kinda.

Black Orchid - A 2 part pure historical is a rare breed. I wouldn't have minded more stories along these lines. It also makes me wish things like Vincent and the Doctor didn't have monsters shoehorned in.

Over the past few days I've been watching 'Mawdryn Undead' (I'll be doing part 4 before bed tonight) - Whilst it's not a favourite, I've been enjoying it ok...

Earthshock - I'm glad they made Adric even more annoying than usual in Part 1 so the ending would be extra effective.

Re-watched Everything Changes to get a few snippets of Andy Davidson before Stranded. Gosh it looks old now, doesn't it? I also notice that Russell follows his own example, using the Rose model of introduction. The episode very rarely deviates from Gwen's perspective (only during the montage of the team abusing the technologies and Ianto erasing her computer). Somewhere on the internet a long time ago, someone once said that Torchwood was basically just a series of Doctor Who where "Jack is the Doctor, Gwen is the companion, and the rest of the team is, collectively, the tin dog." In defense of Owen, Tosh and Ianto, I'll say that's a bit unfair for the series as a whole - but true for the opener. It's all about Gwen and Jack. The Big Reveal at the end is effective enough - when you think about it, the killer never could have been Random Alien #3492, so it's obvious in hindsight, but well done for putting Indira Varma's name in the opening credits. Also when Suzie gives her speech about how they only ever get the garbage aliens in Cardiff, I found myself chuckling that Big Finish had her meet a Slitheen before this!

You just see how much fun everybody is having doing it. My favourite Sixth Doctor TV outing! Interesting bit of trivia that I only recently learned in his Obituary: Clinton Greyn (pictured) who played the lead Sontaran in the Two Doctors, was the getaway driver in the opening chase scene of Robbery (1967), by Peter Yates. Steve McQueen was so impressed by it that he employed the Director to film Bullitt, with its iconic San Francisco chase scene between McQueens Mustang Fastback and the Dodge Charger. I could not find the full clip where he features quite prominently - it has been removed from Youtube, but here too is the edited trailer, with William Marlowe (Kismet Delgado's second husband), Clinton is very cool in the full scene and no doubt inspired McQueen, such as having a chilled out smoke by the Jag, whilst awaiting his involvement:
