Tonight was World War Three/Aliens of London with my DW viewing group. Fun night! People are too hard on that one, I think. It's a well structured story, only let down a little by the overplayed flatulence gags. But people focus on the goofier aspects of the Slitheen and ignore the rest. Especially love the "narrows it down!" scene

Dr. Who and the Daleks
Been ages since I last watched this curiosity. It’s a much more efficient telling of The Daleks and Cushing’s Doctor is undeniably charming. If anything, that’s the only major flaw in the adaptation process as he’s so nice it doesn’t seem plausible for him to pull the fluid link stunt and rally the Thals for his benefit, whereas early day Hartnell was much more morally ambiguous.

Always had a soft spot for Kinda. Its wonderfully weird and the Doctor’s dynamic with Todd is so much more enjoyable than his Season 19 companions.

The Faceless Ones
An average story, which takes ages to really get going, coupled with a bizarre choice to completely sideline Ben and Polly in their final story. Their departure comes across as a complete afterthought.

The Faceless OnesAn average story, which takes ages to really get going, coupled with a bizarre choice to completely sideline Ben and Polly in their final story. Their departure comes across as a complete afterthought. As I understand it, Ben and Polly's farewell suffers the same way as Dodo's - the actors' contracts ran out two episodes into their final serial. It was only because the final scene of the story was being shot on location at the airport (where they were participating in the Ep 1 shoot) that they were able to have a farewell scene at all. If not for the location work, we'd probably have had another message like Dodo's saying "Thanks, but we're home now and we're staying. See ya!" While admittedly a little lacklustre, it's definitely better than the alternative!

After stumbling on the illustration below while reviewing Facebook messages (artist presently unknown) -- a rewatch of The Masque of Mandragora. A production including some stunning location footage, studio lighting from those who brought you the terrors of the Punishment Dome in Vengeance on Varos, and an archtypally Doctorish plan for defeating the villain: "I'm going to get him to keep thumping me until one of us dies." A great story and the closest that the Hinchcliffe/Holmes era came to the historicals of yore. An ur-example of the later Philip Hinchcliffe Presents stories that would arrive at Big Finish.

Kinda: part 4 Terror of the Autons with CGI effects From now on, I think I'll wait until I've finished watching a story to post about it.

Yesterday and the day before I watched 'The Dominators' as I 'wound down' after my weekend's working-weekend camp. It's not really a favourite, but it was a fair way of spending a couple of hours...

At the moment I'm beginning to 'settle down' for the evening for my daily episode of 'DW'... And by pure coincidence, the episode that I've 'hit' in my technical runthrough of the show, 'The Mind Robber' part 1 first aired FIFTY-THREE YEARS AGO THIS EVENING!!! It's the weird little coincidences in life...

Been continuing my on again, off again New Who marathon. Cleared Series 5 (one the most consistent series of Who ever and oh so satisfying at the end) and now in midst of Series 6 (which is, well just not as good).
