Magicians Apprentice. The guitar on the tank scene still is one of my favorite scenes in the whole franchise.

Galaxy 4
This was okay. The animation definitely helps it, as the surviving episode reveals the actual production quality was not great (the set looks like a breeze might knock it all over and the supposedly impregnable door separating the Doctor and Vicki bends and wobbles everytime they touch it). There is an attempt to make the Drahvins somewhat layered with their scene in episode 3 whilst Steven sleeps, which is something to latch onto creatively at least. Otherwise, all very so-so.

Hello again
Courtesy of an offer at Britbox running from Faceless Ones to Wheel in Space. I'll have to wait for some pennies before buying Evil of the Daleks.

The Rebel Flesh/ The Almost People
I didn't think much of this two-parter when it first aired, but I've seen is numerous times since and it had grown on me. There are so many layers to this one; the nature of identity, the importance of memory, how fear can push us to do terrible things. All set in a truly creepy and unsettling environment. Yeah, I think this is definitely a story that has improved over time.

Well Today I reach my 30th Fan Anniversary 3rd January 1992, so its Part of the (looking back at it insulting) introductory documentary Resistance is Futile followed by the underrated The Time Meddler.

Flux - Once Upon Time.
I find myself rewatching this series on IPlayer, whilst waiting for the Blu-ray set to arrive so that I can ... watch it again. I can't remember the last time a series of Doctor Who got me like this. One of the things I love about this episode is how Jodie's Doctor has been defined by her unshakable spirit and optimism. Here, everything is disorientating her, the threats coming from everywhere and not giving up: 'time', the ravagers, constantly changing times and events, 'the serpent', Sontarans, Daleks and Cybermen on the periphery - and now the Angels too. Yet she never gives up and remains resolute and even chirpy (with poor Yaz seeming the only one copping her moments of frustration).

The Creature from the Pit. Apart from Tom's entertainingly silly performance this is awful.

City of Death from the new Blu-ray set.
Tom in long scarf and coat, hand in hand with eccentrically dressed Lalla Ward darting across bustling Parisian streets. A rich aristocrat who is really an alien with a face like a boiled egg in a plate of spaghetti. A fleeting visit to Leonardo Da Vinci. "You're a beautiful woman, probably." "Bye bye, Duggan!" The most important punch in history.
Every word of praise heaped onto this story is deserved; it is absolutely wonderful (and Matthew Waterhouse describes it as a 'nuts and bolts' story on the extras??).

Today is TEN YEARS of Doctor Who for me. An entire decade ago I sat down and watched Rose and the rest is history.
I'm celebrating across mediums, with an episode, a comic, an audio and hopefully starting a novel before the day is out.
First up, it's Into the Dalek. I've just paused at the opening titles to say that Capaldi is marvelous (the absolute command of the situation in the cold open!) and that I love the premise of this one. "The Fantastic Voyage... of the Daleks!!" Not sure if the idea was Phil Ford's or Moffat's but it's the type of idea that Moffat *would* love - bonkers and pulpy and new.
Anyway, onto the day and into the Dalek we go!!

Last night: Attack of the Cybermen on Britbox. A few flaws don't get me wrong, but enjoyed it much more than the Twin Dilemma. I see the Doctor decided to stick to the broken Chameleon Circuit by the end.
This morning: City of Death on Blu-Ray. Hard not to enjoy for me. Julian Glover is yet another great actor to have appeared in both Doctor Who and Star Wars. Great location work and film restoration.
