The Silurians
Doing a spot of homework before Legend of the Sea Devils, as to my shame I haven’t actually watched the Third Doctor Silurian/Sea Devil stories.
This was damn good. It’s paced really well (it did not feel seven episodes long), boasts well characterised supporting characters and has a very dynamic Third Doctor leading the charge.

I agree, but it goes to show how much I adore the Third Doctor era that it isn’t even my top 10, and not the best of the series(Inferno I love you dearly!)

LOL Personally I think Dr Quinn part of the plot is one of the most dull and ultimately redundant things I've ever seen in Who Regards mark687

Village of the Angels
For the first time since finding the reboot, I wandered off for some months. We got back to it. We love it thus far into Flux. I ... I can only pray they stick the landing. I'm enjoying this quite a bit.

The Sea Devils
Well time to see what all the fuss is about.
Honestly this kind of vindicates my assumption that they are just Silurians…but underwater. Even the Doctor seems to consider them one and the same, with his repeated references to his last encounter. This story also doesn’t really delve into the Sea Devils all that much; they get some nice scenes lurking and fighting but not much character, aside from the really fickle leader who changes his mind at the drop of a hat. But that’s this story’s only real weakness. Very cool design though.
Elsewhere the story is paced really well, Pertwee and Delgado are both at the height of their powers, Manning gets plenty of good material for Jo being proactive and the action scenes work really well. Even the Whitehall figure I feared was just Masters redux turned into quite a biting look at the armchair generals of politics.
So yeah, some good stuff here. And now I guess for completist reasons I’m going to have to watch Warriors of the Deep. Ugh…

Warriors of the Deep
*Long, deep sigh*
It’s just plain bad, isn’t it. Not even inspiring enough to make me angry. It’s just devoid of drama or atmosphere and the production values are in the gutter.

Last week I rewatched 'City Of Death', which I adored as always. One slight "complaint" though... Would've been nice to have seen something plot-relevant happen during all the Paris footage, not just 'scenery porn' and "quick let's run from one studio scene to another!"
This week I've done 'Creature From The Pit'. I don't dislike it, I don't 'love' it, it's... There.

Fancied some more Third Doctor so stuck on The Curse of Peladon.
Maybe my favourite of the Third Doctor era (it’s this or Day of the Daleks I think). I do love it’d focus on characterisation first and foremost; King Peladon and Hepesh are given real depth, the Ice Warriors are evolved from the simple invaders of the 60s (not that there’s anything wrong with that, I do enjoy The Seeds of Death) to compelling characters in their own right. Pertwee and Manning are on top form as well.
I also find interesting how with it being a coded take on the EEC debate of the time, no side is really portrayed as totally right or wrong. Obviously the Federation is framed as the way of progress but it’s very clearly a flawed organisation and Hepesh’s scepticism is given some sympathy, as he’s more afraid of losing his way of life than hating aliens, with his final defeat coming on a rather sad note. Monster would even go on to prove Hepesh was actually right to fear the mineral exploitation the Federation would bring. I just find this an interesting angle, given how damn polarising the issue of European politics has become in Britain nowadays.

Last week I watched 'Horns Of The Nimon'. Not a favourite, but I think I enjoyed it more than I have done previously.
Over the past few days I've been making my way through the animated 'Shada' DVD. I've been enjoying it plenty, but have been drifting off slightly in the evenings when I've been watching it. (Over lunch today I made it up to the equivalent of partway through part 5)

Galaxy 4, colour animation. I think it's safe to say that I have experienced Galaxy 4, more times than any other Doctor Who story, probably because there are so many versions of it.

The rescue/the romans
I’ve been looking forward to these stories, Maureen O’Brien is such a breath of fresh air, and I can’t help but adore Vicki.
The Romans is a nice change of pace, after all the big finish historicals, it’s nice to see Ian and Barbara get a break, however short it is.
I’m hoping to squeeze Starborn and the Web Planet in tonight, though I’m absolutely dreading it.

The Green Death
Intelligently written and with great pacing. The effects don’t quite live up to the ambition (that damn CSO) but this is still a very well made story. The Doctor and Jo’s final scene is especially well done.
Sarah Jane Adventures: Death of the Doctor
Someone had the frankly genius idea to include this on The Green Death special edition. With the looming return of RTD to Who, this is quite an interesting thing to return to as the last time he wrote for the Doctor on TV. A story about nostalgia, with the villain effectively being a toxic entitled fan shouting demands. And she’s beaten by the protagonists embracing all of Who, not just the bits she wants.

And for something completely different: Battlefield
There is a clearly a vision behind this one. A clash of an old world of magic and Arthurian lore and the new of multinational armed forces & nukes, with each aligned the Doctor’s future and past respectively. However this just didn’t get executed well. The plot is messy (even in the re-edited special edition format I watched) with characters just coming and going.
There are moments of genius that do shine. Morgaine’s troops paying homage to a World War memorial, Morgaine paying the tab by restoring the barkeeper’s sight, Mordred turning the Doctor’s speech from The Happiness Patrol against him and the Doctor talking down Morgaine at the very end.
Ultimately I think that poor old TARDIS interior is rather representative of the story, and perhaps the entire show at this point in its history. Bright ideas at its centre, but around it things are falling down.

Revisited Eve of the Daleks ahead of tonight. The best Chibnall era Dalek story imo.

The Space Museum,
I must have seen this story three or four times now, and I still can't make heads or tails of it.

The Horns of Nimon. Not a great way to end a season, but it’s not the worst Doctor Who story ever. It was better than Destiny of the Daleks in my opinion.

I tend to forget how goofy this episode can be.
