for me the spin offs are a grey area, although I like them I don't love them them.
Dalek empire was ok although the terrible music and the Daleks saying Susan Medez all the time was a distraction
cyberman was just ok
I hated first unit series, loved the dominion one and the new series unit has not really lit my fire yet. also I cannot understand why the unit vault tales have never been expanded on, with just 3 (well 2 and a bit) I feel I still want more of these.
gallefy aren't really my thing, I find them a bit of a chore to get through.
Vienna is a strange beast, it's pretty good but there is just something about the character that leaves me hummmmm
jago & lightfoot were brilliant for 4 series, then a trip back in time and the inclusion of the "innovative" story telling episode each box set has dulled my enthusiasm for them.
counter measure is constantly good
river song was good but after just one box set I wonder if it will continue
I think I would have to say my favourite spin off is the Sarah Jane ones, even with that awful cliff-hanger ending or I would have to include the charley pollard series as I want more of these and still hoping that the fates align to get her back to a more world weary 8th doc before we say goodbye to her.
and how could I forget to include benny or iris......well I just did.....benny has had her moments but not sure about her current range and iris hit's her stride later on first few release were terrible.
For me, the most underrated spin-off recently was The Churchhill Years.
I didn't really want it, I put off listening to it for a couple of months and when I did listen, I really enjoyed it and thought the stories were well written - the last one being the weakest. I'll certainly be buying the second volume.
