Did anybody hear Julian Rhind-Tutt's taking over Rumpole on Radio 4 today? For some reason I couldn't get it to record, so will have to muck about with the Radio iPlayer.
I was rather disappointed to see that he was replacing Benedict Cumberbatch, who was superb. Not only had I not noticed at first that Cumberbatch had taken on the series solo without Timothy West as the 'old' Rumpole, but he played up a level of melancholy and negativity in the character and the stories that people often don't spot. Rhind-Tutt has very big shoes to fill.
