This is really both interesting and surprising to me! While I think Mark Passmore has written some wonderful stories and makes this a very fascinating duo, they seem more to me like a spinoff range and are the LEAST like the original! I still like them all, but would place them at the bottom of my favorites list. Pulp detective fiction is not a favorite genre for me...or detective fiction in general. Sorry, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle! However, this pairing works for me because of their history on the show, Mark's writing which adds the element of friendship and possibly more, the chemistry of the two leads, and the supernatural aspect. If it didn't have those, it would seem very Sam Spade or Maltese Falcon to me. So, yeah, if more are done, of course I'll buy them! The upshot is, I HATE it when my opinions are not the majority opinions!!! It bruises me, and makes me see red! (I'm just being facetious of course!) I think that the main appeal for this set of stories is that they aren't connected to the other audios plot or arc-wise, so they are perfect as stand-alone. The only connection between this arc and the other dramatic readings is the advert for the ill-fated Halloween special of Beyond the Grave live from Collinsport at the end of The Phantom Bride.

That's not the only one...

That's not the only one... I stand corrected. I know that the T&C stories refer to TV episodes, but I can't think of any connection beyond the Beyond the Grave advert in Phantom Bride. Please, do enlighten me Seraph, I promise not to go all vigilante on you.

There's a couple of little things, I think. Certainly there's a connection between the villainous ladies in The Phantom Bride and The Lucifer Gambit.

I'm still not exactly sure what it is I like so much about the Tony & Cassandra stories but I do enjoy them, consistently. I too am a bit surprised that they sound so popular but I guess I shouldn't be. That's great, actually. The only thing I've ever disliked about them has been having a preference for more full cast with Jerry Lacy and Lara Parker after a healthy run of Tony & Cassandra stories, and we have most definitely gotten that with Bloodlust and Blood & Fire, so I don't know why I wouldn't be ready for more. I'd certainly buy more audios with The Petersons myself.

or we'll get to the point where everything has to be a flashback. Not that there's anything wrong with that! Some of my favorites are flashbacks. "...yes....I remember Barnabas Collins." - Celeste (Barbara Steele) in The Night Whispers
"....I remember....the day the Collins family perished...." - Maggie Evans (Kathryn Leigh Scott) in The Rage BeneathAnd of course, all those marvelous tales as told by a DS veteran character to a new DS character like Panic and The Curse of Shurafa. But yeah, I know what you're saying...don't rush to the ending of a core character's arc when there's still a wealth of material that could be mined while getting there. The nice thing about DS is that it DOES lend itself so well to tales set in the past. Because the series itself had extended flashback sequences, and a brilliant ancestral history, it doesn't feel out of place to hear of new adventures that already happened in the past and are just being related to the listener now. The Devil Cat was probably my favorite of the T&C stories, although I like them all quite a lot--I just adored Wendy Albiston's character and portrayal and the whole Wicker Man vibe. And I think it was the ending that actually made me finally start to truly appreciate the story arc and want to hear more. That being said, I was still very surprised when Robert told me that it was the Tony & Cassandra series that fans really want to hear more of. Much as I enjoy them now, they didn't really feel like DS to me....however, it goes to show that a good creative team in the right situation can make something wonderful and "new" from something tried and true. Here's to more from T&C!

So for The Devil Cat, specifically the ending: while it’s a heartbreaker for Cassandra to become Angelique again, is that the lead in to Bloodlust where she’s in the cave? Or am I wrong on that front?

Post The Devil Cat and into the "Full Cast" Seasons (House of Despair, Kingdom of the Dead, Bloodlust) and Blood & Fire spoilers ahead! At the end of The Devil Cat, after the memory sweep, Angelique mentions seeing the house of Collinwood, when she is buried (so on the grounds of the estate or very near by). The Dark Lord mentions the ground above her burial plot won't grow anything. Tony mentions leaving a note for Barnabas, but isn't sure anyone will find it (likely not found by the right person).
In House of Despair, Quentin and Willie find Angelique's grave because "everything she touches dies." Digging there, they find her body and resurrect her. I believe that The Devil Cat sets up Angelique's death and resurrection timeline, though with a time traveling witch, its a mess to figure out sometimes.
At the beginning of Bloodlust, it's mentioned that Maggie Evans, after Serif reveals the truth about the Collins family (including that Angelique Bouchard Collin Collins is a witch), chases off Angelique. Barnabas and Quentin both leave at the end of Kingdom of the Dead. Angelique hides at the cave of Lookout Point at the base of Widow's Hill (it's also where a certain silver fountain pen was lost). After the end of Bloodlust, Angelique agrees to go back to 1767 for Blood & Fire. Hopefully this info dump helps. Feel free to correct or further connect the plot dots for me.

I've very much enjoyed the Tony & Cassandra stories that I've listened to: The Tony & Cassandra Collection, and The Mystery at Crucifix Heights.
It got me wondering a lot about Cassandra and Angelique and the background behind all that. Also wondering about Tony and his first encounter with Cassandra/Angelique.

Their first interactions were on the TV show where {Spoiler} After Vicki came back from 1795, she found a portrait of Angelique which Roger became enamored with. He goes off for a few days and comes back married to Cassandra Blair, aka Angelique, who's come back to torment Barnabas with a Dream Curse after he's freed from the vampire curse. She also hypnotizes Tony to be her servant to cause discord using his lighter and put a rift between Tony and Carolyn.

As the Bloodline season approaches, I broke out Apartment 493 from Tony and Cassandra 2. Superb!!
Do we know who did the amazing voice-over at the beginning? Sounds a lot like Nicholas Pegg (Nicholas doing Dark Shadows would be a dream come true) to me but somehow I'm not 100% sure and the credits don't seem to clarify.

Dark Shadows: The Tony and Cassandra Mysteries Series 3 comes out next month! I've just downloaded all the Tony and Cassandra audios to enjoy them again before the new release. I love revisiting old audios to get my money's worth out of multiple experiences, slow down my voracious consumption of new audio books, and of course be a little more aware of previous adventures (not that Big Finish doesn't provide wonderful exposition).
What are folks excited about with the next audio? I can't wait for them to further the new character of Alice Wilkes, they certainly gave themselves a lot to work with for her, and she's a nice way to round out the characters of Tony and Cassandra.

I certainly enjoyed all of the audios and the spin off sets. I know many folks on here are totally versed on the TV series and though i watch it occasionally i really have fallen in love with the Characters and story via the audio medium more than the TV show.I just love it hahah and then i love fitting little pieces together with the tv show and other audios.I just love Dark shadows. The Tony and Cassandra mysteries just add more layers to what i know of the characters and am grateful that the audios do not require a deep knowledge for me to enjoy them they really embrace the new listeners and entice them towards the TV show.
