the Time War is an overrated idea that was soon exhausted and becomes more irrelevant with each release. there are good stories that neither require nor deserve to be linked in to the Time War. RTD was right; it is more effective by being spoken about but not experienced. I am afraid I have to agree in most parts. However, I also can see that the quality of writing in the BF Time War releases has improved a lot over the past years. Especially the War Master and the Gallifrey releases were amazing.
Sadly, the 8th Doctor still is a bit hit and miss and at least for me never gets as good as the main 8th Doctor series.
Do any of these story desperately need the Time War in there? Depends.
For now it appears to be mainly a backdrop for telling stories, I think because everybody is aware that pure pew-pew explodey stories would run out of steam quickly.

To me they are adventures set against the backdrop of the time war so aren't detailing the entire war. However given BFs track record I'm sure they will do stories about it all eventually.

The overused trope of an all powerful creature/object that the Time Lords believe to be a myth/wiped out. How many times have BF used this idea? Too many!

The 8th Doctor Boxsets are not very good. Each one alleges to have a single arc but often ignore it for half the stories. It would be better to trim these releases, a trilogy with 3 stories each. That way it would maintain the tension of the big villain/event.

Strap yourselves in. I think this is going to ruffle some feathers.....
Bill’s era is better than Pat’s.
The Daleks’ Master Plan is my favourite 60s Dalek story.
The Gun Fighters is a brilliant piece of comedy.
Steven is the best companion of the 60s.
Pat is a great Doctor, but his era is really let down by his companions (with the exception of Zoe, who is awesome) and some truly awful stories mostly in Season 6.
Pertwee is the best Dr. Who.
The golden age of “classic” Who is from Spearhead in Space to Caves of Androzani.
Peter Davison’s third season is his best and Season 21 is one of the best years of the show (excluding Twin).
The combo of 5th Dr, Tegan and Turlough is criminally underrated.
PD is the best 80’s Doctor & PC is the best Doctor of the “new era” and both have 3 great seasons and brilliant final years.
Taking Doctor Who off the air for 18 months after S22 and cancelling it after S26 was absolutely right.
Colin’s second season is brilliant and far superior to his first.
While he does still have the odd classic like Static, Colin is now sadly well past his Big Finish prime.
Survival is easily the best story in the last five years of the classic run.
Ainley is a great Master and works amazingly well with Tom, Peter & Sylv.
The Valeyard is the Doctor.
I love the sonic sunglasses.
Dr Who is fun if you don’t buy into the “fandom” nonsense.
And it doesn’t matter whether anybody shares your opinion about Dr. Who.
And the comments that are seemingly most controversial:
While Big Finish is wonderful, it will never be canon in the same way that the TV series is.
Big Finish should switch all its Doctor Who content to box sets asap.
Listening to Big Finish should be a joy and not a pissing contest.
There is absolutely no need to listen to everything Big Finish produce, and I am certain they don’t expect people to listen to everything they produce.

The last two points are particularly relevant though - well put.

The zombies from Waters of Mars are very one note and not that scary in comparison to the the Doctor going full on Timelord Victorious at the end of the special. I also think they are not nearly as scary as the gass mask zombies or the vashta nerada victims, or even the eye crust monsters from sleep no more. It’s kind of less suspenseful if you automatically know every drop of water is going to cause the virus then if it was unpredictable. Waters of Mars is still a scary episode but more for the Doctor’s reaction to the situation than the zombies themselves.

Multi-colored feathers duly ruffled... Ainley is a great Master and works amazingly well with Tom, Peter & Sylv. Oh, good - you redeemed yourself for that one, just in the nick of time Kidding aside, that was a very good post even if I don't agree with 100% of it and I much enjoyed it, thanks.

I have too much but tbh I spend more time listening to audios than watching telly so am always willing to be persuaded to listen to different ranges.. I have tough time with Torchwood truly but am willing to give one a go at least I have a fondness for the 7th I must admit and House Of Blue Fire I love to bits and hi s Fenric Trilogy. Star Cops is on my radar now.

I think the only ranges I have complete from BF is the 8th Doctor (all releases), Benny New Adventures and River Song.
Everything else is a bit patchy... I usually only buy/ pre-order things with good review and which tickled my fancy or if someone wholeheartedly recommends something to me.
That said, I still have spend waaayyy too much.
But like causality, I also do not have a TV, so have to rely on books, graphic novels, DVDs and audios for my entertainment needs...

I have...so much of their material it's probably an addiction by now. Though there ARE things I won't get. Dan Dare = nope. Star Cops = nope. Space 1999 = nope. A few other things.
