This should be interesting, especially if it is in BF continuity. Are the other Torchwood comics, especially those that were in Torchwood magazine part of the continiuity?

The continuity thing is interesting, the 8th Doctor comics reference his BF companions.

Seeing as the finale of the Torchwood Comic Series came out this month, and I’ve just finished reading it I’m wondering what other people’s thoughts were on it and, what ideas & characters you’d like to see transferred into the Big Finish Range’ either in the Monthly Adventures or a Special Release like Outbreak or Believe, featuring the ice maiden team...

I’m not sure I’d say it was completely crap, but I definitely think some parts of it didn’t work and that it could definitely have done with a stronger/tighter story line, and might have even done better as an actual book, I liked the inclusion of The Committee really bringing it into the folds of Torchwood. For Queen And Country TommyP The first four issues/first arc was a major turn off. Not much story progression and the Ice Maiden characters dumped on you with the barest of background or exposition. When issue #1 starts with a Previously On recapping a book from at least four years ago that was not previously mentioned in marketing you know something isn't right.

Yeah they did kind of shoot themselves in the foot by not saying that it was a carry on from Exodus Code, and it also could of done with it just beening a straight run of 12 comics rather than having it split up into the three seasons. The key thing that I feel let it down for me was that it had to many ideas going on, and I feel it would of done better sticking with a more straightforward storyline with less time hooping... For Queen And Country TommyP It would have worked better if it was a mini-series set anywhere between Everything Changes and before Children of Earth. There's a cast from TV and it could make use of a setting from the TV episodes. See where everything is stored in the Hub for example. I think Titan adapting the unfilmed Sarah Jane Adventures storylines would be cool. The stories finally get made and it's a great advertising hook as well as appealing to the SJA fan base. If that proves popular maybe doing storylines set during earlier seasons like when Maria was across the road. It's a different demographic from the regular Doctor Who titles and Torchwood, plus could get in companions like Ace.

My take is that the series suffers from bad writing. The Barrowman's are not very good writers in my opinion. Exodus Code was weak and the comics they've done are the lowest end of Titan's output.

So I've just binge read the Torchwood Titan Comics; World Without End, Station Zero, and The Culling. Some thoughts (spoilers, obviously): First and formost, these needed a script editor. Some of it just doesn't flow, or assumes I'm going to recognise who the heck some of these people are. I'm not entire sure when these are supposed to take place. My initial guess had been 2012, continuing on from The Exodus Code, but... now I'm not so sure. This could be playing out in 2017... The Cardiff Unknown Podcast episode suggests that Aliens Among Us played out over the course of 2018, and God Among Us started soon after. I could see this coming before them. Kinda wish Big Finish would adapt it into three sets, and streamline the script a little. The twelve issues over three volumes very much play out like three Big Finish sets of a season 4.5, twelve episodes in three little batches, connecting a larger plot in three acts compiresd of four episodes each. World Without End brings us back to the Ice Maiden, last seen in Exodus Code, as well as back to Torchwood House, last seen in Tooth & Claw. Captain John is up to his neck in it, and is being used as a proxy so another baddy doesn't need to stick their neck out, and is trying to play them and Jack against each other in the hopes that he'll somehow make it out of there alive. It's mostly localized intrigue, and we get to hear a bit about how The Ice Maiden was upgraded with parts from the old Hub as was mentioned by Colchester in Changes Everything. A lot of what it amounts to is setup for the next set. Station Zero picks up literally right where World Without End left off, and the intrigue begins turning worldwide, and even timewide as we're treated to flashbacks of Jack & John's mission to fight off some Vervoids (yes, turns out they're the big bads here). The Committee is involved, co-operating now, without knowing that the Vervoids are trying to get revenge on them as much as they are trying to harvest the Earth, in response to The Committee participating in heading them off in the future. It's one big timey wimey ball of backstabbing, really. Anyway... I'm not actually sure why The Committee is here, other than to "tie in" to the Big Finish stuff, though it does make the world of Torchwood across different mediums feel more cohesive I guess. The Culling picks up some weeks later, after Jack & Gwen have parted ways with The Ice Maiden (so Jack wasn't 'dumped', per se, Colchester ), and Captain John popping up again to let Jack & Gwen know that everything's not over yet. Jack & Gwen go trapising off to Svalbard to track down the lone remaining vervoid on the planet... who was born by absorbing both of their genetics during the events of Station Zero, and is effectively their kid. And is named Sladen, which I'm not sure is in poor taste or not. This story also explains, in flashback, where Jack got that bit of TARDIS coral he was growing on his desk. While all the conflicts are resolved, the series ends with some nice setup for more adventures from the crew of The Ice Maiden, while leaving Jack & Gwen free to go do whatever they were up to before gwen got possessed by Ng. After reading this, I wouldn't particularly mind a Torchwood spinoff about the Ice Maiden, which is equipped with some spare Time Manipulator parts as well as Jack's attempt at a chameleon circuit. It's not quite a TARDIS, but it can basically do teleport hops around the planet, and shift it's outer appearance, James Bond Vechicle style, so look like different ships. It's captained by an ex-MI5 agent who's had dealings with aliens, is powered by an AI aproximation of Marry Shelly, who's sleeping with said ex-MI5 agent, and is crewed by a couple humans and the Vervoid lovechild of Gwen & Jack. Yes, it's terribly fanficky, but eh, so's everything else in this franchise The yarn itself was okay. As I said, it needs editing. This either desperately wanted to be a trio of novels, or a television season, or something, and like I said, it's ripe for adapting. I don't think it's bad at all, just needs some polish.

Thanks for the review! And yes, I feel Torchwood leans into the fanfic nature of Whovianism harder than any other DW spinoff and we are better for it.
You want the smoldering antihero of Buffy to crossover with Torchwood and make out with Captain Jack? Done.
You want Gwen and Jack to ....come together? Done.
You want Norton Folgate more involved because Sam Barnett is cute as a button? Done.(well thats not really a fanfic thing but just he's awesome. He's the main reason I'm trying to decide if God among us warrants a physical purchase or digital because I NEED IT)
Also it will take some searching( I believe I posted a current link on Gallifrey Base) But Torchwood Babies is actually pretty darn good.
And I don't feel "Sladen" is in poor taste but I feel naming the vervoid Sarah Jane would have been. Sladen likely means nothing in the main Doctor Who Universe so I think it was the writer(or even the artist) putting in a tribute and pointing out that Liz's last name is actually badass sounding.
And I can't watch SJA without crying so I think my opinion here is from a place of compassion and reverence.
Still need to finsih Exodus Code but currently busy with Torchwood One!(I am surprised and delighted at how good it is)
