It still makes me sad to see Main Range titles go out of print. Yes Benny came first but the Main Range is the foundation of the Big Finish brand.

I would say it's shared between that and The New Series range. I would disagree with that. For BF the new series license is too recent a thing. Hell BF was producing Doctor Who for about 6 years before the showed stormed back onto TV screens. Yes new series audios have helped raise their profile but for the longest time the Main Range was Big Finish.

Coming along when it did, it - by definition - can't be a foundation.

Im guessing they meant more foundation as in what keeps something up and so indeed i would agree that the monthly range and the new series audios are what keep finish up and running, arguably torchwood is there too. But yeah the Main Range definitely was the heart of big finish for a good couple years until gradually its importance has lessoned other the years. First the 8das, then the 4das and then the rise lf the boxsets has, whilst not making it obsolete by any means, deffo lessoned its significance.

I mean without the Main Range Big Finish would not become what it has. I mean the Main Range was Big Finish and Big Finish was the Main Range. For as much as spin-offs, new series characters and box sets have diluted the importance of Man Range, it still remains the primary source of 5th, 6th & 7th Doctor adventures and still the thing which Big Finish Doctor Who audios have developed out of Foundation is really the only way to look at the Main Range. And it was a lot longer than couple of years. Try almost 15 years. I get reducing inventory and I get that a lot of people's listening habits have changed but it made me sad when the first 50 went out of print and it makes me sad to see 51-100 start to go the same way.

I get reducing inventory and I get that a lot of people's listening habits have changed but it made me sad when the first 50 went out of print and it makes me sad to see 51-100 start to go the same way. I’d say more ten with the eighth doctor adventures coming in at 2007 when things started to shift. It shows a want to appeal to a wider audience than before then and, whilst it was slow, the edas are the first image or what a lot of big finishes output would become. Not that they dont do classic style storys, the Main Range (or monthly whatever you call it) still provides that continueation of classic who. But a lot of the spinoffs feel very much a product of new who and even Mcgann does now. Arguably, Toms one hour storys, whilst relient on nostalgia, feel fast paced like new who. Not a critique mind. Just its hard to compare Mcganns new boxset stuff in comparrison to his 1-50 stuff. Both are excellent in their own right but are different. Same with new and classic who which i try not to judge together too often. Both have their high and low points but they are unique to the time each show is made. I do think the main range is necessary. It is the foundation and whilst ranges come and go, there will always be one adventure featuring a classic doctor every month and if it was to go into a boxset format like many suggest, i feel that classic style story would be lost Which is the biggest appeal of the main range as well as that story every month. It is the foundation that lets other ranges flourish. It seems that isnt happening with the way releases are changeing with five mccoys coming up (i really hope the trilogy format ends in place for the 1-key2time storys) but we shall see i guess.

As doctor2402 said, I thought you meant foundation as in base income generating range(s). (Maybe Torchwood should be in there as well?)
But, yes, the Main Range is still the heart of Big Finish.
Although ... If we're talking brand, I would say Doctor Who [old and new] and Torchwood. And some other stuff.

It isn’t as if they have vanished I do Love Cds and a lot of the first stories are still available on download so it isn’t as if they are not available they are just not available in my listening preference.I long for a Lanyon Moor Cd or Marian conspiracy on Cd but am sure if they are Smart they might do special editions with New Covers. I am a classic Doctor Fan and am at the mercy of BF lol

I'm honestly amazed Natural History of Fear wasn't the first to go.
