Considering the placement in Angelique's timeline, {Spoiler} her alias in this story is actually very heartwarming. She goes by the name Cassandra Peterson, with Cassandra being her name when she shows up after 1795 and Peterson from Tony Peterson, who she has a series of misadventures with. At the end of their final story Angelique is made by the Dark Lord to forget her time as Cassandra and with Tony, which means that the fact she uses Cassandra Peterson as her alias implies this has worn off. Or... {Spoiler} She's just a huge fan of Elvira: Mistress of the Dark.... Or both.

Let's find out what happened when Laura left Edward and ran away to Egypt with Quentin! (Well, we know how that ended -- with human sacrifice -- but getting there is half the fun!) OMG YES! YEEEEEEEES! And let's have some pre-Barnabas Laura stories, and maybe a story about Laura saving Burke from the plane wreck, and Laura rejoining the main cast back in the 80's stories, and and and! MORE LAURA PLEASE! GREAT podcast! So that's who Naomi was!!! I've been really impressed with her from the start--she's wonderful. If they ever dramatize Wolf Moon Rising, they should have her play the younger Liz in the 1920s parts! I agree with Joe--a Quentin/Laura Egypt story would be great! I'd also think a Laura/Jeremiah story would be excellent! Here we have B&F where she's engaged to one brother, and ends up married to the second brother--who is only a baby at the time of Joshua and Laura's engagement! Oh yes! That too! Oh man was Joshua still alive during that storyline? Would be interesting to know if he recognized her... Yes! Jeremiah and Laura were married when Barnabas was still a "boy with sad eyes", as Laura recalls him. It all happened in the past, and off camera--pre the 1795 storyline by some years. Joshua was alive into the 1795 storyline and when Barnabas and Jeremiah are grown men and close friends (more like brothers than uncle/nephew because they are so close in age.) Or maybe she was a different Laura.. It's easy to confuse them all!!!

OK, can we all agree on one thing? Roy Gill is an absolute genius. With "Blood and Fire," he's written the perfect 50th anniversary celebration of "Dark Shadows" -- a tale so true to the original spirit of the series, but so new and delightful, that it's a thrill to behold. It's everything a DS fan, new or old, could hope for, and everything that the late and lamented recent big screen version failed to achieve. This guy is a keeper, and I hope he continues churning out new DS episodes for years to come.
I'm writing this after my second listen to "B&F." I was simply too overwhelmed by it after the first turn to express my thoughts. But tonight I am even more impressed by the audio's complexity, its attention to DS lore, and -- yes -- its utter sense of fun and invention. It's an instant new addition to the DS cannon.
Of course Roy didn't do it alone. Producers David Darlington and Joe Lidster, and directors Ursula Burton, Darlington and Lidster deserve kudos as well. Without their efforts this range may have died a lonely death. The entire Big Finish team has preserved and progressed a beloved franchise, and its fans are so grateful for their work.
The cast, once again, delivers outstanding characterizations. Everybody was grand. That said, I was particularly impressed by Daisy Torme as Abigail, James Storm as Abraham (note to BF: Can you cast Jim in a leading role he deserves, instead of a cameo in which he's quickly dispatched? He is too good to waste!), Andrew Collins as Joshua, and Nancy Barrett as Isobel. Lara Parker gives us a bravura performance as Angelique; her work is consistently excellent, but she's superlative in "B&F." And what can I say about Joanna Going? I loved her as Vicki in the 1991 remake. But here, as Laura, she creates a truly original character who gains in strength and power as the story goes on -- and blows us away by the tale's end. She is a most welcome addition to the BF company of actors, and I hope to see (hear) more of her in the future.
Then there's Jerry Lacy. Can that man ever do anything wrong? As an actor, he never makes a bad choice. He is a true star of this range. Now I want a Malachi Sands origin story. Who was this guy? How did he harness the power of the Phoenix? And why did he pick Laura for the curse? I know I am getting selfish, but I can dream.
I'm getting long-winded so I'll wrap this up. The plot was a treat. I was astounded by the audacity of the march of the dead on Collins House and the fiery conclusion of the tale. Laura as savior of the Collins family? Incredible. The inclusion of so many original and BF DS actors was seemless, even in tiny roles (More Chris Pennock and Lisa Richards! Please!). Using Bob Cobert's score in so many places made it seem even more like a return to the original series.
"B&F" knocked it out of the park. I can't wait to listen to it again. But first I must hear "Echoes of the Past." What a great 50th anniversary celebration you are giving us, BF; and I can't believe we are getting even more. "Bloodline," anyone?

I agree with everything Joehart1962 has said. This is EXCELLENT, and one of the most authentic-to-the-television-series audio BF has yet done. From the plentiful cast, to the sound design and beautifully reconstructed musical cues ... to the story, which is absolutely brilliant and steeped in atmosphere. This has instantly become one of my favourite Big Finish DS productions. Along with 'Echoes of the Past', we have had a more enjoyable celebration for the 50th year than I could have hoped, even bearing in mind BF's excellent Dark Shadows output.

I just love the decisions that were made with this entire production...and I'm sure the process was not always an easy one! To recast or not to recast? Do we visit yet ANOTHER time period? Can we give Joshua/Abigail/Laura some softer edges and yet still stay true to the characters? Who to write it? Who will be IN it?
I'd love to hear more about the creative process behind this one! Just brilliant!. And to think--we have Bloodline to look forward to!

Blood & Fire is FABULOUS. Just curious. Who is providing the voices for The Dark Lord and Naomi? Doesn't sound like Nigel Fairs to me. I could be wrong.

I could be wrong. {Spoiler} The Dark Lord is Lisa Richards - except for the moments when he speaks through Mrs Summers (and then it's Marie Wallace). Naomi is Alexandra Donnachie.

I'm surprised Nigel Fairs wasn't asked to reprise the role of the Dark Lord. There were several members of the cast who only appeared in one or two scenes.

Who DID play him the last time, prior to B&F? Did I miss something in my cast lists?

Ah, got it. It just seemed odd. Andrew Collins and Lara Parker have played the Dark Lord before Nigel Fairs did, so you could say that what He sounds like could be different for everyone who hears him. Scott Haran's Gifford was far more interesting than Craig Slocum's Noah Gifford btw.
