Just prior to the start of the story Chris got a Body Bepple (a sort of temporary genetic makeover) to make him look like a giant teddy bear. Partway through the story he's seriously burned and the Bepple wears off, restoring him to his usual self as seen on the cover. The scene depicted on the cover of the novel takes place while Chris has the Bepple, yet he's shown without it. Having a giant teddy bear manhandle the Doctor would not be the most surreal cover from the New Adventures. Timewyrm: Revelation has the Doctor dancing with a skeleton on the Moon, with a church and an astronaut in the background (and this actually happens in the novel). Conundrum has to be seen to be believed. Spoilsport. Now everyone knows what we're on about. I'm amazed we've still not mentioned the main point about the story.

All this is reminding me I need to re-read Original Sin before the audio story is released. As soon as I finish reading The Highest Science.

TBR December 2016SynopsisA warning from a dying alien leads the Doctor and Bernice to Earth. However Earth in this time period is not a good place to be. The murder rate is rising, but the killers seem to be acting without motive. The TARDIS crew's investigations lead them to a military training planet, a prison inside a star, and a terrifying old foe. And all the time they are being pursued - by two dogged Adjudicators who've stumbled onto a terrifying conspiracy. Chris Cwej and Roz Forrester. Things will never be the same again. Based on the 1995 New Adventures novel by Andy Lane. Written By: Andy Lane, adapted by John Dorney Directed By: Ken Bentley CASTSylvester McCoy (The Doctor), Lisa Bowerman (Bernice Summerfield), Yasmin Bannerman (Roz Forrester), Travis Oliver (Chris Cwej), Andrew French (Beltempest), Philip Voss (Robot/Under-Sergeant), Amrita Acharia (Rashid/ Computer/ Shythe Shahid), Robbie Stevens (Dantalion/ Homeless/ Securitybot), Jot Davies (Powerless/ Pryce/ Hater/ Evan Claple). Other parts played by members of the cast. Even though this is an adaptation of a story that has been around for a while now, can everyone please regard any plot points, details or reveals as spoilers for those coming to the story through this adaptation?

You know... If I were travelling in the TARDIS and the Doctor so much as breathed a word that you could link with "holiday", I'd pack a hard hat and some kind of adamant shield just in case. Chances to unwind never tend to go well.

Chances to unwind never tend to go well. The Third Doctor tried to get Sarah to Florana and got Exxilon instead. The Eye of Orion in The Five Doctors at least proved restful until machinations on Gallifrey came into play.

Oh, he eventually succeeded with Florana, just that they manage to stumble into an assassination plot by a group of rogue Chelonians while they were there. The Fourth Doctor tried holidaying on Tara too, during that whole Key to Time business and had his hat set on fire. Castrovalva wasn't even a holiday and it somehow managed to be more uneventful. Let's not even talk about City of Death or The Leisure Hive...

That's me. And you are correct. Just prior to the start of the story Chris got a Body Bepple (a sort of temporary genetic makeover) to make him look like a giant teddy bear. Partway through the story he's seriously burned and the Bepple wears off, restoring him to his usual self as seen on the cover. Timewyrm: Revelation has the Doctor dancing with a skeleton on the Moon, with a church and an astronaut in the background (and this actually happens in the novel). Conundrum has to be seen to be believed. Oh, the cover for The Also People with the Doctor floating on a sofa chair between several large battlecruisers in space? Also, actually in the book. While I think he's singing --"Anything you can do, I can do better... I can do anything better than you..." Now, who said that the VNAs weren't fun?

I wasn't going to get this but then I realized this was the origin story for Chris & Roz which I assumed incorrectly was in Damaged Goods so I figured I better.
Also I realized one of my favorite villains is involved in this story although sadly of course not being played by the same actor.

I've enjoyed the novel adaptations and am sorry to see the range ended. We don't know that it's ending. Maybe the effort that's gone into all the new series projects means not much time to develop further novel adaptions at this time.

I thought BF announced the range was ending, or did I imagine reading or hearing that at some point?
