I really enjoyed this one.
Personally, whilst obviously there are story styles that appeal more than others to me (*) all that goes out the window if the story is engaging.
*(I tend to find very sci-fi-y 'people in military/scientific outposts/bases who call each other by their surnames while fighting some war/battle' stories to be very dreary/samey, for example - but there are still examples of that over the years that I really enjoy.)

I thought it was enjoyable but nothing out of the ordinary. Although it was fun to hear Colin's Doctor against Macqueen Master's
And I liked that the Doctor "won" at some great costs. In fact I'd hardly call it a true win.

I also liked this one. I love McQueen's Master and it was great hearing him against Colin. I really liked Kate Kennedy as Heather. She's a great companion for Sixie. Smart, funny, willing to take a risk and able to think clearly in bad situations. I would love to hear more from from her in the future.

Barring naff cliffhangers & a sluggish first episode this story really hit it's stride & got very good, Colin Baker & Alex Macqueen shared great chemistry as the Doctor & the Master & i thought the idea of the Doctor losing his short term memory & wouldn't remember the Masters features in Dominion was a great idea.
Another solid script from Justin Richards.
I'm rating this one 8/10

A perfectly serviceable story - not the greatest ever, but solid. The whole bit about having the Doctor's application rejected and Heather's accepted, I can't expect that anyone did not see that joke coming... it was one of those "set up the pins and knock them down" scenerios. Agreed that the cliffhangers might have been a bit weak. I've always liked McQueen's Master - I've said before that I'd rather have him than Missy on the tele.
Listening now to the interview extras, did anyone else think that Elliot Levey sounded a lot like Turlough (Mark Strickson)?

One big question about this one - I thought in the first part that Professor Threadstone was investigating and was captured by the blanks. It sounds like he is a prisoner and I though the Doctor and Heather even see him with a hood over his head later, but don't recognize him because of this. We don't find out how he escapes. He just later rescues Heather and the Doctor. I think at the end he distracts the blanks with a recording of him from the first part. Anyway, this aspect was a bit confusing, but maybe the script will clarify matters.
Also, with Dominus blowing up at the end, Heather lost a bunch of equipment and research. I hope she backed everything up before going there.

We never actually heard him get captured, it cut away just before, leaving us assuming he had. It was a bit clumsy, I think we were supposed to think it was him on the table at first and then realise later it wasn't, but it really wasn't clear.

There was a lot to enjoy with this story. Firstly, the Alex McQueen version of the Master is perhaps my favorite, and I'd pay real money to see him make the leap to television Who, Sixie is on good form and the banter between the two of them is really entertaining. Heather is another in a long line of great BF companions for the 6th Doctor. I liked how the story was more or less a stand-alone story whilst also being the middle part of a trilogy. I think Jamie Anderson has been a really good shot in the arm for the monthly range. On to the main event.

Me too, and I absolutely get what they were doing dramatically, but there was something about Threadstone's actual reveal that made me think for a second that I'd lost track before I realised they'd pulled a switch and bait on us. It was very clever, but maybe a line like "oh thank god, I thought you'd been caught and strapped to that table" might have helped. OK a lot less clumsy than that, but you know what I mean, some better telegraphing.

Just one line of dialogue from Professor Threadstone after the fact about having a close call and perhaps how he escaped would have helped. As it happened I half thought he was going to turn into a "sleeper" of a deeper game from the Master and I was waiting for the shoe to drop.

Not outstanding, but quite entertaining. I'd say 8/10.
I think part of the issue for me was that it sounded somewhat similar in terms of basic plot concepts to a few other main range stories. Not identical, but similar. I suppose that cannot be helped at a certain point. BF has so many stories!

Threadstone could be part of "The Two Masters" next month.

I wonder if the Doctor's memory was affected by whatever was wrong with the Master before the mind leech got to him. It just seems odd that he didn't recognize the island. Well, the Master was also experiencing odd memory loss, so something in "The Two Masters" might happen to them and retroactively erase some memories?

The script pdf is now available. Page 32 has Threadstone being chased by the blanks. One of the blanks is Arthur. The last we see are
He then reappears on page 80 in the landrover to save Heather and The Doctor.
On page 52 is where I had though it was Threadstone captured. "They’re moving like they’re in a trance, that’s for sure. Except for the one in the middle there. Hooded, with his hands and legs chained. "

Well, that was an interesting story, I thought. Though I see it got a mixed reception from those of you here. I love Macqueen as the Master, and I thought Heather worked well as a companion for the Sixth Doctor. I assume it is all building up to some resolution in the next story, The Two Masters, which I will be listening to next.
