One Factor which is interesting is the License extension to 2028 (last time was in 2017 with the license being extended to 2025 which coincided with Capaldi leaving and his era being available- for example Missy first appearing in The Diary of River Song Series 5 which was released in January 2019 with Michelle's dialogue being recorded either between 27th November 2017 to either 12th, 13th or 16th March in 2018) the point i am making is that from the time that the license and the capaldi era was available to Big Finish they had plans to use The 11th and 12th Doctors eras so.... What if 2022 is when Big Finish gets the rights to use the 2018-2021 era? Jo Martin is technically a new series doctor so Big Finish might be making plans for her audio range Bit of speculation there i guess BF got the rights to use Capaldi era elements literally the moment Twice Upon a Time finished airing, although obviously they knew it would be on the cards and they started working on material using the license before they'd be able to sell it. (See also the HG Wells adaptations, which were recorded before Wells' work legally passed into the public domain.) The 'heritage' license, which is the one BF have, covers everything except the current Doctor's era, so BF won't be able to use any elements from Jodie's era until she leaves (although at the point when it's known she's leaving they could start working on it).

Going back to the issue of Grace Holloway, I always thought one way of having her character return would be to do the ‘Original Sin’ approach where the character re appears in all but name.
Say she has had to go into a Witness Protection Programme by UNIT after being targeted by some enemy only to then once against face the Roberts Master. Naturally, as part of said programme she has had to change her name.

Something that I did miss but I think Big Finish is doing a 5/Peri story after all Unless I’m mistaken but I don’t think AK Benedict has written a story for the pair Well I don't think it's a typo as she liked this reply...Nope! Scott Handcock corrected me, she DID mean Tegan:

So, we did get a newly-announced story for a new-to-BF Doctor after all, sort of. If you count the Watcher. Incidentally, I've not listened to teh podcast all the way through, but I've seen it suggested that JH-E, in regard of potential further Doctors, mentioned Capaldi and then Matt Smith as an afterthought. Does that mean one is more likely than the other?

Does that mean one is more likely than the other? Might be reading too much into his wording. But despite that I think it's fair to assume that Capaldi is more likely. They're both getting high profile work right now, but Smith moreso, right?

Back when the first volume of 10DAs were announced I think the general assumption was that Smith was far, far likelier to ever do BF than Eccleston, it's tough to tell how these things will pan out.
I certainly don't expect either Smith or Capaldi to come on board in at least the medium term -- both are doing pretty well (although being cast in a Game of Thrones prequel would probably be bigger news if the franchise hadn't lost so much goodwill with the final season of the parent show, and Peter being the villain of an MCU film is probably at least as high-profile), Matt is apparently reluctant to add any more to his Doctor's story arc because he thinks it's complete as is, and Peter's departure is still pretty recent and he doesn't seem hugely keen on the idea of doing BF from what he's said at convention panels.

IMO there's so much room between Day and Time of the Doctor for new adventures, new companions if you're short a Coleman, where Smith and the writers could still draw from everything that came before... (and if Kayvan Novak feels like taking some time away from being a vampire to play a robot head...)

They could always change their minds about BF at some point though, nothing is ever set in stone 🤔🤞

Worth noting also though, recent interview with Nick and Jason. “We continue discussions with other modern Doctors and have...” “I think you better stop right there” That’s exactly what I was wondering about! 🤔 That statement definitely means something! If I recall, Nick has been saying that for the last couple years- so ..

[b....not to be persnickety (though I've had a lot of Fireball tonight and my judgements shit) but Suicide Squad is a DC film, not MCU

Guys its not Smith or Capaldi don’t hope for it as there isn’t a chance and youll only be sad or disappointed xx There may be something announced tomorrow, might not but whatever it is just dont overhype it too much as i assure you it won’t be half as exciting as some of the things said here. Are you sure?🤔Because it’s looking pretty likely😉 F

I think we’ve had the big news with their world record and Fifth Doctor release. I suspect the main point of that post was just to derive subscriptions to their newsletter more than anything. Which makes it Tweet Bait and the opposite of "Oh Look how Professional our Media and PR strategy is now" Regards mark687 They promised a "big news week", and delivered a week with lots of news announcements. It's not their fault if people read "Peter Capaldi Matt Smith CONFIRMED" into everything they do.

One day it will be true that BF has Peter Capaldi confirmed 🤞

So it turns out it was all a subtle promo campaign for the next BF Classics Shakespeare...
Much Ado About Nothing
OK not actual nothing there's been a lot of news, and interesting news too, but there is always a lot of news of some sort. 'Forty' is the big one I guess, but with the sad passing of the MR, there were going to be new boxsets for Five/Six/Seven weren't there BF? And very good it sounds too.
Did we overread, or did they over-tease? 50/50 maybe, but I tend to take all these 'big news coming' hints with pinches of salt large enough to stop a Fendahleen. Then when I'm not expecting it and they really do announce BIG news - it's 'Fantastic'!

This week we got extensive information on Dalek Universe 2 and the second Lone Centurion set, the Fifth Doctor boxsets, the second audio novel, a snippet of the first 9DAs set, the title for the second 9DAs set, information on the second Avalon set and announcement of a new Blake's 7 audiobook. I'd say that qualifies as a week of big news.

I suppose it's a tribute to BF that in my book all those items of news are interesting, but more or less routine. BF do great work all the time, I'm not blasé about it but I do expect it.

How dare Big Finish promise news and then give us plenty of news that failed to reach the stratospheric announcement of William Hartnell finally returning to the role as Doctor Who.
