It's a bit of a one to answer, because while Ordeals and Judgement and Sacrifice could be listened to as a self contained boxsets they each form a loose trilogy of sorts...and all three have plot strands running through them. And at least one plot strand comes from Perfidious Mariner. On the other hand, if you are talking about playing the four CDs from Ordeals out of order the best advice I can give you is simple - don't! I'd better get 'The Perfidious Mariner' then, thanks for the tip (and it's another bargain DL as one of the OOP titles.)
So that and 'Ordeals' are a good jumping-on point for the following two sets (which I don't have yet - I bought the earlier 'classic Holmes' releases but with this offer I see the hand of Professor Moriartyfinish, luring me in ever deeper to his web of audio )
(Play the stories in a set out of order! Do people do such things? I never would because I expect the writers to have a trick or two up their sleeves even if a set looks unconnected, but good advice, thanks.) I've never heard Perfidious and it all made sense to me, just start with Ordeals and away you go.

Just to clarify what I meant : while ljwilson is correct that you don't necessarily need Perfidious Mariner to enjoy Ordeals/Judgement/Sacrifice, there is a plot strand in that story - or rather one character in particular - that plays a part in the boxsets. Besides, it's written by Jonathan Barnes, it's set in 1912, initially puts a different complexion on the Holmes / Watson relationship, features a real life (and somewhat infamous) character and at £2.99 is.. (to quote a well known and deeply tanned antiques dealer / TV personality) ..as cheap as chips. 😉

Just got The Avengers Too Many Targets in the sale.
That was the last CD on my To Buy list - other than future releases not yet out I am completely caught up with all the CDs I wish to own.
Buying them is one thing, finding time to listen is quite another ...

Got Gallifrey Series IV. I was in the mood for some good mirror universe stories. And this sounds like exactly what I have been looking for.
Who knows, maybe this can even tempt me to check out the rest of the range (although, that will be a hard one since I am not really into political intrigue).

Picked up Star Trek Promethius in the holiday sale. Good fun to find something I don't mind having but didn't already have. Thanks, Big Finish!

Forgot that in the middle of the night I also bought Liz Shaw Companion Chronicles "The Sentinels of the New Dawn" and "The Last Post" in the current weekly sale offers. I already had the CDs, but bought years before downloads were included. And not transferred in properly. So now I have downloads too.

Finally got around buying Volume 1 of the Third Doctor adventures. Just felt like listening to more featuring Katy. Even if the first Volume is regarded as the weakest one where they try to find their feet.

Today marks 5 years since my very first Big Finish purchase (blimey, where has the time gone...), so I thought today was as good as any to make my next lot of pre-orders: The Fourth Doctor Adventures: Series 9 and Adam Adamant Lives! bundles

Fourth Doctor Adventures E-Space bundle (in the nick of Time, probably!)
I'm stupidly late doing some of my post-Christmas pre-orders and way ahead with others where I don't need to be; all over the place in fact. It would take a Triple-Alpha graduate or a computer dog or a maths prodigy to sort it out - anyone know any?
