Aaaand, although I first did not want to, picked up Jago and Litefoot Series 5 in the sale. Last minute spontaneous decision. Even if it does not have that Victorian vibe. But with this, my collector/ hunter/ gatherer mentality came through.

First impromptu purchase in ages - the Torchwood Tales box set in the current sale. The CDs themselves were less that AU$10(!), but the shipping brought to total to just over $30. For 18 hours of content though, I think that's still a steal

"What's that you said? Fifteen hours* of New Series novelisations for a total cost of a little less than 0.80p per hour? Don't mind if I do! Thank you Big Finish (and BBC audio)..most kind. While I'm biting your hand off in acceptance would you like my debit card number?" 😁

It really isn't as bad as it could be. You still save a lot of money when you order during sales (seriously!), you've just got to know how to make the most of them. Does the shipping still cost an arm and a leg? Yeah, it can. But if you plan your purchases around the sales, bundle costs are really quite affordable because they come with reduced shipping. If you're picking and choosing though, you're going to stack up a sizeable postage cost very quickly; in that scenario, buy as much as you possibly can in one go. That will minimise future per order charges as you'll already have most of what you need. It's not necessarily the most economic system, but there are ways of making the most of your money.

Many years ago I used to buy only from BF, averaging $100 to $450 at a time.. This was before all the extra charges were put on.. The distinguished competition still ships for free anywhere around the world.

But BF can't afford to ship for free, and they only upped their prices because what they were doing before wasn't sustainable for the business. I can't comment on whether there are cheaper couriers they could be utilising, but if they need to charge that much for shipping then that's what they need to charge. If we as overseas customers want to buy direct then we'll pay the prices. If we don't want to then we can get them through other retailers, as you say. And for what it's worth, I'd be stunned if you could find that Torchwood Tales box set for anything to close to $30 (with shipping) anywhere else. Amazon and Book Depository are charging $50-$60 without considering any shipping they might add on top (I don't use either much so I don't know their shipping practices).

From what I have been told, there is more than 1 shipping service in UK.. Anyway, for the "special" releases like Legacy Of Time, the upcoming Master boxset, and anything that comes personally signed I will buy direct from BF. Anything else I buy from them now is a bonus. It's all about choosing your battles so to speak. Everyone's finances are different and we all have priorities that need to be paid 1st, like mortgages, utility bills etc.
Battles. Choose. LOL

Timey-wimey purchase announcement (seems appropriate): I haven't bought the 'Torchwood Tales' set yet but at that price if I get to midnight without doing so then something will have interfered with the timelines...
EDIT: As predicted I did buy it and just in time before the rift sealed forever - ie they ran out of stock. Phew!

I picked up Afterlife today. It's one of the few remaining gaps in my Main Range collection, and with it I now have a complete run from 1-235. Beyond that point, all I have is Quantum Possibility Engine. I'm not sure what I'm going to do about that.
If I got a 12-sub from 236 onward, it would include QPE. On the other hand, even with 11 releases the sub price is still a good discount and I could finally snag Four Doctors as a freebie. Or I could get a 12 from 244, then go back and pick up 236-241 as a 6 sub and hold out hope that there's a sale on The Dispossessed before I get impatient and shell out my 12.99 for it.
Also, since when was a 3-sub an option? I could really have used that a few months ago. Did I miss something?
