Oh wow! I have to see this, and I don't think I want to wait for a watered down US version!

And we don't want to miss any body parts! I understand it's quite the bodice-ripper!

And we don't want to miss any body parts! I understand it's quite the bodice-ripper! It's a bit exaggerated by the media. There are a number of sex scenes (which I won't lie isnt my favorite aspect) but not to the extent the media portrays it.

I do have a region-free player somewhere in storage.....

oh dear, this was terrible, wooden, auto cue acting, terrible dialogue, and what's with all the sex & nudity, it just stops while we watch a bit of action for no real reason that to try and shock. it may have 20 years ago now it's just boring. I managed 35 mins it may have got better and I have missed a real treat.
was not going to post anything, but after reading that BBC received many complains I realised it's not just me.
there have been a few OK reviews by the broadsheets this morning but on the whole it was not that well received.
sorry not for me.

I don't think they are trying to "shock" with nudity & sex nor do I think there is that much of it compared to a lot of TV shows. It's not my favorite aspect of the show but sex was definitely a part of Louis XIV's court. He had many mistresses as the show depicted. And most of the complaints came from UK tabloid magazines. I am not really sure if anyone really complained. But interestingly this show aired in many different countries and there was not a word about the amount of sex & nudity. Only the UK media made that an issue so far. Personally I do think there is a lot more to the series than that. My favorite aspect is the relationship between the King & his brother. Although I also think the show gets better as it goes on. But oh well if people think it's all about the sex & nudity that's their loss.

You're right to disbelieve the amount of actual complaints - the Murdoch controlled press will use ANY opportunity to bash the BBC including generating faux-outrage. It's the same as when Doctor Who has its annual "disasters" and "show in crisis" headlines - powerful friends of the Tory Party trying to tarnish the Beeb.

yes always right to not take the tabloids too seriously, but I don't think I am wrong in finding it's not the greatest of shows.
2 out of the 3 people I spoke to this morning turned off about same time as I did. admittedly all my age group or older.
glad you and many other are enjoying it

Everyone enjoys different things and I am not saying the show is without flaws either. It took to the 4th episode in my opinion for all the pieces to really fall together. But if you don't like it then I think you made the right decision to drop it. However I did feel the need to defend against the sex & nudity complaints because I do think they are ridiculous.

I am still very anxious to see it! It sounds like I will like it already, and I'm glad to hear that it's shooting series two! The BBC is apparently not shying away from it. I also find it interesting that Alex says that London Spy was more graphic. I loved that show, and was not put off by its frank nature at all. It was tastefully done, and I've definitely seen worse--and on some American television too. I don't think Versailles will make me blush. It will be awesome just to see the opulent costuming, setting, and French court. And Alex.

Well first season is over in the UK. Starting on August 25th in Australia and October in the US.
Met so many nice people through this fandom and trying to introduce them to Dorian. It's a win win situation.

Hey guys there is going to be an auction on for the 27th to help one of the actors Evan Williams build a school in Nepal. I've donated a few times previously and it's a really a fantastic cause. Alex is now offering some autographs for the auction. Not Dorian related but I thought some of you may be interested. I'll update again with more info on the 27th act.buildon.org/fundra1ise?fcid=560972

Oh very cool! Would love to bid on something!! You know, the Dorian Gray range made me an Alex Vlahos fan and then I wanted to see more of him and his acting. I loved him in Merlin and Privates....and can't wait for Versailles to come to the States! Nice little mementos, these!
