Neat concept for a story. The second time I listened to it I rearranged the tracks so they played in chronological order.

I've been behind on my group listening, but now I'm caught up. I love this story. I'm a big Jamie fan, so it's hard not to. I also really like the stories that try something new and make you think while you're listening.
This one puts Jamie in a very different role. It seems that many writers use him for action, or exposition ("I don't understand. What's happening, Doctor?"). He's rarely put in a position where he has to use his intelligence and work it out for himself. I loved it. I also liked that his belief in The Doctor had to be examined. Could the Doctor make a mistake? Could he be so wrong about the situation? It was a really well done story that was essentially full cast. Thanks for picking this one, whoever it was.

I have 3 number 1 Companion Chronicles Stories, This One, Find and Replace as well as The Last Post. And boy does it seriously go all out. This was my first 2nd Doctor Story I had heard and it blew me away. Jaime is portrayed by Frazer Hines brilliantly and his 2nd Doctor portrayal is top notch too. 11 out of 10 stars!

I haven't had time to relisten to this story, but I remember really enjoying it when it came out. A very intresting examination of Jamie's widening perspective and his relationship with The Doctor.

Neat concept for a story. The second time I listened to it I rearranged the tracks so they played in chronological order. Thanks for the prompt! I've been meaning to do this for ages, and finally got around to it thanks to this comment and thread, straight after a regular-order relistening. If anyone else wants to have a go, the track order is 1, 2, 4, 12, 9, 6, 7, 8, 10, 13, 5, 11, 3, 14. Ignore 1, 7, 8, and 14 if you don't want theme music (I skipped them, myself). I thought it mostly worked as a way of seeing things from Moran's perspective, with only a couple of rough transitions where Dominic Mafham's energy level didn't match (Frazer Hines' didn't matter since he was jumping about anyway). It works better as drama in the standard order, though. I'll join in the general praise for the story. I like games and puzzles, and anything that plays around with perceptions of reality, so I was well-disposed towards it from the start; but when I first heard it I wasn't in the right mood and gave it a mediocre score. This time Eddie Robson's script and both performances gripped me. Lisa Bowerman added her usual directorial polish, and Howard Carter's sound supported it all well (I didn't really notice it, which is actually a very good sign, and thinking back all I can say is that I was immersed). I don't know what I was thinking first time! A few random observations: - I actually thought the conceit of hearing the Doctor speaking through the companion might have worked better with someone who sounds less like their Doctor! Several companion actors get the intonation and speech patterns right but not the overall sound (particularly some of the women, for obvious reasons), and it might have been interesting to write it for one of those. Having said that, the story would have had to be different because it is far more than just a conceit, playing with Jamie's loyalty and the fact that his lack of education doesn't mean he's stupid. Leela would probably be closest, but even there it would have had to be done somewhat differently.
- The way I write fiction is in much the same order as this was put together! I write the opening first, then the end, then I go back and fill in some of the key moments I want to hit, then fill in the gaps.
- It's a good job Jamie was better at solving this puzzle than the Doctor was at getting Jamie' face right in the Land of Fiction...

I would have liked to listen to this try in a different order from last time but not sure how to do that with the app. Ah well!
Moving on to the story. What I like about this one that the clever way the story is told doesn't subtract from the story itself. The best companion chronicles focus on the companions and this story focuses on Jamie's intelligence or lack off. It's a mistake to think of Jamie as stupid. While he doesn't have the intellect of Zoe & the Doctor because he comes from a simpler time, he's not stupid at all. In fact in his time in the Tardis he was constantly learning and picking up new things. So I love that in this story the outcome is not based on Jamie's brawns but his brains and while he might have taken more time than Zoe would have, he still solves the puzzle on his own.
The story also shows Jamie's unwavering loyalty to the Doctor. He never doubts the Doctor even when forces are trying to get him to.
Jamie is one of my favorite Who companions. Hearing that Frazer Hines did the voice of the 2nd Doctor was what got me curious to check out Big Finish in the first place. If it wasn't for Jamie & the Second Doctor I probably would not be here today.

I've met Frazer but I never told him exactly that. I should have. I blame my shyness.
