This is something I've just noticed on ebay.
I've seen some copies of The Art of Destruction and The Price of Paradise with Billie Piper on the front covers with Tennant, but then I've also seen some version with Tennant alone.
Is there a particular reason for this?

Someone posted a while back, saying something along the lines of Billie had prevented the use of her image, the speculation then seemed to be because she didn't want to be associated with Who, my personal speculation would be because she's had image rights management dating all the way back to her pop singing days, unlike most actors, and they've asked for more money than the publishers care to pay.
But, that is pure speculation.

Ah right, so the first run of those two books they had her face and then on subsequent reprints, she was gone? Makes sense

My understanding is there is an issue over image rights for Billie, dating back to her popstar days. BBC were obviously allowed to use her image while she was appearing in the programme (be a bit hard to promote the show otherwise) but yes, they could well be prohibited from doing so once she'd left.
The price of casting a popstar I guess. We should think ourselves lucky she never sang in the show. Seriously lucky.

Yes, there was definitely a rights issue due to her pop days.
The first Rose action figure has Rose written on it somewhere - as a requirement to clearly be a "Rose" figure not a "Billie Piper" figure.

2008 Edition: When I bought the Doctor Who: Original Television Soundtrack CD a few years after it was originally released, my copy disappointingly arrived without Rose on the cover. 2006 Edition: Later on, I re-purchased a factory sealed (and value priced) copy of it with Rose on the cover.

I had to replace my copy of Feast of The Drowned and the new copy that came in the mail just had Ten on the cover but otherwise had the same background. Rose was just edited out and the Doctor was moved to the center of the image.
I always keep my eye out at used book stores for another copy that has the original cover so it'll match my set.

It's down to her record company, who apparently own her body.
Or something like that.

I wonder what would happen then if Big Finish ever got Billie Piper onboard for a 10th Doctor Adventure? Would they pay to use her image or just show the 10th Doctor on the cover?

Wow! You don't like the product because someone isn't on the cover!!! We are Doctor Who fans; there is often no sensible reason why we like or dislike things...

That's a really good point actually, I can well imagine them not using Billie on covers just to dodge the issue. It's not like anyone's going to make a purchase decision for a Big Finish audio based on it having a picture of Billie Piper on the front. Lets face it, we'll all be pre-ordering at just the hint of her name.

It would seem really odd but I can't imagine Big Finish being a small company would have the money to pay extortionate odds to feature pictures of Billie Piper.

It might be different if Billie Piper is actually involved in the production. Has she done any bbc audios? Is her face on the cover? Do the reprints have her in the cover? Do the dvds still have her on the covers?
