Rules of Engagement Not a film that gets talked about much in Samuel L. Jackson's film oevre. Its a good film and Tommy Lee Jones is great as always. You can tell they felt it was going on too long though with the ending

Just watched last Christmas, I won’t spoil the twist but even though I kind of guessed it, I still cried buckets by the end😭 I think I watched a different movie that all the critics who said it was terrible 🤔I thought it was funny, charming, romantic, and thought provoking 😊 Emilia Clarke was really good sort of like a cross between Fleabag and Elenor Shellstrop from the good place😀 Henry Golding is ridiculously charming and quirky, and I kind of would like to see him play the Doctor now😊 It had a definite Love Actually vibe that works for me as it’s one of my favorite Christmas movies🎄😊

It never had a hope of being as good as the original, but after avoiding it for a year or so, I ended up really enjoying it nonetheless.

Alien (Theatrical Cut) It's been about seven years since I last saw this movie (it was also the only time I'd seen it). I think it's a testament to how great it is in that I could remember the entire movie almost shot for shot. The one thing I hadn't remembered was just how incredibly tense it is It really is edge of you seat viewing, even if you know what's going to happen. The dialogue, music, and presence of the alien itself are all surprisingly sparse, but that's what makes it all the more effective when they're used. If there was one thing that wasn't quite as good as I remembered, it was the alien costume. There are one or two shots where it looks very rubber and unrealistic, but I think that's more than made up for by the rest of the film. On a different note, I really have to say something about the picture quality. I remember first watching it on DVD. It had the really grainy look that a lot of older movies tend to. This Blu-Ray edition, however, is immaculate. There's not a trace of film grain anywhere. It looks as though it could have been made today. I'm not sure why, but I never really though Blu-Ray made that big a of difference in terms of quality, but that may stem from the fact that when my Dad first got a Blu-Ray player we had an older TV that probably wasn't designed for HD. It use to shrink the image right down into the middle of the screen, with more than 50% of it just black borders. Having a newer TV now really lets me appreciate just how much fantastic Blu-Ray really is on older movies. Having been a fervent DVD man all my life, I do think I might start getting more things on Blu-Ray...

Alien 3 - Workprint Was interesting watching this without lot of the ADR, the music and the chestburster. But as a whole its the great middle place between The assembly cut and the Theatrical version. Though i do prefer the Charles Dance opening to the Assembly than the text stuff from the theatrical
Super Mario Bros While tonally all over the place, its not as bad as its made out to be. I really enjoyed it
Why Him? Who would have thought the team of Cranston and Franco would work so well
Midway Very restrained for an Emmerich film. Also a perfect film to watch on Remembrance Sunday

It never had a hope of being as good as the original, but after avoiding it for a year or so, I ended up really enjoying it nonetheless. Yeah, it's one of those films where, while I found it fun, but I put it in a separate box to the cyberpunk of Blade Runner. I got a lot of joy out of Bubblegum Crisis, Ghost in the Shell and the like that had been produced in the interim, so there was no real chomp at the bit for a sequel. I will say, though, Luv having her nails done while shooting scavengers with a satellite weapon is one of my favourite scenes in sci-fi, period. It's such a great show of megacorporate power in this setting, and how surgical and passionless their future wars must seem from their perspectives. I think what I was really looking for, specifically regarding a Blade Runner sequel, was Black Out. It was one of the shorts created in the lead up to the film -- this one from the director of Cowboy Bebop -- and it's just an amazing blend of noir realism and punk defiance.

Yeah I didn't even know there were shorts until I bought the BR2049 BD, so they were a very pleasant surprise. I liked all of them.

The Fly '86 - It may not have Vincent Price, but it's one of the best remakes of all time. The makeup and Brundlefly animatronics are incredible, albeit extremely gross. Just about the only Cronenberg movie I like. I'm not sure why his films disagree with me since I usually enjoy strange things.
