Birdman never quite sure where it was going tonally but brilliant for it.
Darkly comic almost autobiography micky take one minute, surreal "What If" moments the next.

Spectre, fantastic film. Not a Bond fan at all but Daniel Craig is amazing. I've really enjoyed all of his Bond, the last two especially, yet I've never made it all the way through any of the others. All the sleazy misogynistic stuff coupled with daft gadgets always had me wincing, sighing and groaning in equal measure on each attempted viewing. My better half is a big Bond fan, he had been going on about how good Daniel Craig is and eventually forced me to watch Skyfall which I adored, I was swept away in the adventure and performances, so much so, it was me who suggested seeing Spectre at the cinema. Thoroughly enjoyed it, some lovely twists and surprises and another fabulous perfomance from Mr Craig. Highly recommend it.

:Sigh: Spectre doesn't come out until next week here in Oz..... That sucks. It's really good. I didn't think it matched Skyfall but it almost doesn't even try to compete. It very consciously tries to be a more old-school Bond while keeping the more contemporary Craig feel. It's absolutely smashed box office records in the UK. The biggest opening week of any film ever.

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. I was naming the actors in my head (and out loud a few times), and thinking of their roles in Doctor Who on TV and audio! There's Harry Melling as Dudley (Hervey in The Whispering Forest) Pam Ferris as Aunt Marge (Lizzie in The Eternal Summer) and Mark Williams as Arthur Weasley (Brian Williams aka Rory's Dad and Maxwell Edison in The Eternal Summer)! Wouldn't it be fun to get Dawn French in for a story or two?

Jurassic Park III. It does have its merits, namely a highly competent kid character in Eric Kirby and the whole Birdcage scene. The scariest bit is when the Pteradon emerges from the fog, appearing first as a tall, misshaped shadow lumbering towards Eric. There's also some foreshadowing for Jurassic World, likely unintentional. {Spoiler} The fact that the Spinosaurus doesn't appear on InGen's list implies some shady breeding has been going on. And what has Wu been up to in Jurassic World regarding the iRex?

The climax was originally going to be with the Marines doing battle with and killing the Spinosaurus, hence why they appear at the end for what was ultimately a five person extraction (Alan, Paul Kirby, Amanda Kirby and Eric Kirby, as well as Billy, recovered off-screen), and why the Spino was last seen slinking away from the fire at the river (petrol from the punctured gas tank on the boat and a flare gun). It's a pity no one had a flare gun in the first encounter with the Spino, when it's attacking the wreckage of the cabin of the plane. Shooting a flare in its mouth could at least have wounded it where it would hurt, even if the Spino became extra determined to eat them. I'd find it hard to eat with the inside of my mouth all hot, let alone stomping around, chasing and eating people. Since the film only runs at 90 odd minutes, it's not like timing would have been an issue.

I went to see Mamoru Hosoda's latest The Boy and the Beast at the Phila Film Fest last week.
While I didn't love it quite as much as The Girl Who Leapt Through Time or the Wolf Children (my two favorites from Hosoda) I would say Boy and the Beast was still very much a winner for me with tons of fun moments and rich themes.

Heard rumours they ran out of money, surelyhow much the first two movies made you'd think that wouldn't have really been a issue, that climax sounds excellent & would've improved the film.
