I'll probably be watching some more this evening after I get home from doing 4hrs of overtime at work, but so far today I've watched 'Thor: Ragnarok' (well, at least I've enjoyed at least one of his 'solo' films) and 'Trolls World Tour' (fine, it was... Fine. I'm sure younger audiences enjoyed though?)

Van Helsing (2004)
Extremely stupid schlock which at times resembles a video game cutscene. Thought it was a lot of fun though and the closest we’ve come to a Universal Monsters Cinematic Universe.
....Hm? What’s that about a Dark Universe? Oh... Never heard of it.

Jaws - Felt like a classic this morning. I found myself getting distracted by things fairly often so I didn't enjoy it as much as I have in the past, but certain scenes continue to stand out even in that context: the boy who gets killed, how brilliantly casually Lorraine Gary delivers the line "wanna get drunk and fool around?" (honestly, it's so real that it feels like they're a real couple), the scene when Roy Scheider is facing away from the water as he chucks meat and the shark comes up to the surface and he turns around just in time to see it, Quint getting eaten, etc.
The Boys from Brazil - Had never actually seen this, despite hearing from my dad since I was a teenager that he likes it. Has some really impressive locations, like General Gogol from the Bond movies meeting and killing the other dude atop the dam in Sweden, but on the whole I found it very uneven. It started off so-so, meandered through the middle with a few nice points (like the dam), got really good in the last 1/3 or so, and then just completely flubbed the ending. Weirdly though I think it's a great concept that could easily be rebooted into a great TV series.
Aliens - Seen it a million times obviously so today I watched a fan edit version that's mostly the Director's Cut, but with a few of the extra bits that I don't like cut out (like the LV-426 sequence with Newt's family). Everything about this movie is so damn good....Ripley's PTSD and maternal story, the phenomenal chemistry between the Colonial Marines cast (who don't even get a ton of character development!), and the production design! The Earth station, the Sulaco, the colony, the xenomorph infestation--four distinctly different environs and ALL of them feel completely real and believable. Even the props in this movie, like the marines' weapons, are so memorably unique. It floors me that this movie is 34 years old and in all that time, there have only been two halfway decent video games featuring the Colonial Marines. The IP of this franchise, and of this movie in particular, are *perfect* for adaptation to an FPS title.

It's been a fair few years now since I last saw it in full (I think it might have been with my Uncle and one of my cousins), but I've always had a soft-spot for it... [The fact that it came out when I was 11 probably helped.

After work this evening I watched 'Half Magic' - Whilst I'll admit that it's probably not one of the 'greatest' films I've seen over the past couple of months, it's certainly better than 'Holly Slept Over' & the mockbusters I've been watching for the past week or so!

Basic, with John Travolta & Samuel L.Jackson, decent film until that stupid twist ending undid all the good work.

Before doing some overtime at work this afternoon I watched 'Black Panther' (a little long in places, but I'd forgotten how much I liked it) and 'Good Posture' (a little... 'Light', but I enjoyed it more than I thought I would).
At the moment I'm currently watching part 2 of the 1985 adaption of 'Anne Of Green Gables' with my mother, which I'm enjoying a-ok.

The Lost Boys tonight. One of those iconically 80s movies, but really just watched for a friend's podcast. For whatever reason, this movie just never really did anything for me. Tonight didn't change that assessment.

The original (and only one u need) Ghostbusters was on tv last night. I still have memories of seeing this at the Drive In back in '84. Great movie, every major cast member has a clear and defined motivation. It's being re-released in the cinemas for a limited time so I reckon I might go and see it on the big screen again.
Ant-Man #1 was also on tv too.

The Mask (1994)
Ah, the golden days when Jim Carrey was on top of the world. Still just as fun as I remember although your enjoyment of it will naturally depend on how much you like Jim Carrey’s style of comedy.
Avoid the sequel like the plague though. Even if your slightly curious. It’s not worth it.

Horse Feathers - Was in the mood for a comedy this morning, and this really delivers. Hilarious. Hamilton - I suppose technically it's a stageplay, but I'm calling it a movie because it's on Disney+ Anyway, I rather enjoyed it. I don't know if it was quite the be-all end-all revelatory thing that people have been treating it as, but I did enjoy it and it didn't at all feel like its 2h40m runtime.

Dawn of the Dead - I was very fortunate to find a Blu-Ray copy at a reasonable price. This is the Anchor Bay release from way back when. As cool as Second Sight's upcoming jumbo box is, I can't justify spending over a hundred bucks for a single movie. An absolute classic in every way, and by far the most fun entry in the series. Wonderful effects, a good story, and a well-developed group of survivors stand the test of time. I actually don't hate the Zack Snyder version, but comparing the two, it's no contest. This is one of my very favorite movies.
I don't think I'll continue revisiting the series, though. Land of the Dead and onward are not good. And Day... It's just too much for me. It's well-crafted, and I think it's very interesting, but the kills in that movie are so disturbing it's just not something I enjoy watching.
