The Invisible Man, outstanding performance from Elizabeth Moss & tense, tight suspenseful direction from the awesome Leigh Whannell. Written and directed by an Aussie.. so.. u know..
LOLZ
(And yes the movie had me gripped right till the last scene. She is a fair dinkum great actress.)
I kinda sussed that would happen cause the closet scene beforehand, Yeah i know he's a Aussie, damm good director, this was top draw entertainment.

Mission Impossible: Fallout Some good action sequences but found it bit predicable and plot didn't quite work for me.

Cape Fear (1991)
Riveting stuff with some great performances. In a strange way, I was almost pleased to see how dated this had now become when it comes to stalking laws. Casy wouldn’t be able to get away with half the stuff he pulls in this now.

Hugo (2011)
One of my favourite films and a stunning love letter to the magic of cinema. Easily one of Scorsese’s best in my opinion.

Yesterday I finished my three-week run-through of the MCU with 'Spiderman: Far From Home'. Whilst at times it does feel like a series of set-pieces, I still had a pretty good time with it (co-incidentally, a former colleague of mine from work features as an extra in the plane scene near the beginning, sat behind Peter & one of the teachers).
This evening I've watched 'Faster, Pussycat! Kill! Kill!', which I enjoyed more than I thought I would.

Had My Neighbor Totoro on last night, was in the mood for something 'nice' and this delivered.
Tonight....it's my 200th movie of the year (oh my god), so I felt like it should be something particularly excellent -- so right now I have Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country on. This movie is so brilliant, both as a Trek movie and as a sci-fi movie in general.

Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon tonight. Meh. The characters and plot felt like things I'd seen a million times before, and did nothing new or interesting with them. And I also find wire-fu completely ridiculous. The movie was really able to shine when it just let Michelle Yeoh and Zhang Ziyi do straight-up martial arts, but unfortunately that only ended up being like 10% of the movie.

The Old Guard, good ideas badly executed, poor supporting cast especially from the actor from Harry Potter who i think thought he was in a 70's Bond movie.
Erratic editing, plot holes & what was with the songs played diring the action scenes, it literally took me out the movie.
2/5.

The Crow. I think the last I saw this I was maybe 12? I remember loving it back then, but I don't think it's aged all that great -- it feels very early 1990s, and the acting is absolutely horrendous. Still, it has a great look and an excellent soundtrack, and there's a lot of elements here that could make a good movie if someone were to tackle it today. I'm just not sure how you'd do it....despite knocking how '90s this movie feels, there are certain elements of how late '80s/early '90s films depicted street-level grime and run-down neighbourhoods that nobody seems to be able to replicate anymore.

Shrek 2 and Shrek the Third The second one is still great, but the third was just as mediocre as I remember it. It has some good bits, but the characterization is off, the vocal performances all felt misdirected, and so much of the humor fell flat.

Point Break - Have you ever fired your gun up in the air and gone 'ahhh'?
This movie is....unique. Action movie cliches make up a large part of its DNA. The idea of surfer dudes robbing banks dressed up as US Presidents is absurd. I find myself laughing at some of the acting, especially from Keanu... But, it's really well directed and the action is top notch. It has a unique feel to this day, even in the face of later imitators like xXx or the original Fast and Furious. Especially that final sequence on the stormy beach, which just about smacks of Metal Gear Solid. It's like it has the soul of a B-movie worthy of MST3K except it was made by competent people.
It's cheesy almost to the point of parody, but it's just so gosh-darn fun you can't help but love it, provided you're on the right wavelength (ha!). A cornball classic.

Chicken Run (2000)
What with their being talk of the completely unnecessary sequel (at least in my opinion) in the news as of late, I thought I’d give the original a look.
Still holds up with their being in true Aardman fashion a lot of jokes I didn’t get the first time around.

(Surprising true life drama. A school's teaching staff, led by closeted Head (Hugh Jackman) and a Social climber Deputy (Alison Janey) panic when the schools own Student Newspaper find proof that they've been embezzling from the local Education Authority.)
