There’s a horror movie called Alien? That’s really offensive. No wonder everyone keeps invading you.

Watchmen (2009)
A film that hardly pleased anyone still manages to do a half-decent attempt at adapting the most unadaptable comic. I’m a big fan of the comic and found this hugely satisfactory. Still do.

The Old Guard on Netflix! I hadn't read the comics, but this was really quite good. With the movie theaters not really being an option for summer blockbusters, Netflix did a very admirable with this action film. Try to go in knowing as little as possible.

The Dajeeling Limited I really liked this one. It conjured quite a bit of discussion of our different readings of certain details.

I’ve been doing some occasional looking for The Rocketeer over the last few years but have never gotten hold of it and yesterday I was browsing in a charity shop and found a copy of it for next to nothing. I watched it last night and it’s still excellent.

Moonrise Kingdom This film was just delightful. It reminded a lot stylistically of Fantastic Mr. Fox.

Tremors. Hasn’t aged a day and is still superb.

The original comic is just fantastic, one of my all-time favourites (well, the edition I have with only five chapters is: the two or three chapters that were released after the movie, in which Cliff goes to New York, were a little disappointing)

Murder by Natural Causes (1979)
Hal Holbrook plays a very rich, and very phoney, celebrity mind-reader, but boy is he good.
His wife spends most of her time in bed with a small-time actor. Of course, she wants her husband out of the way to inherit the fortune and persuades the unfortunate thespian to bump off her husband.
But, there are twists and triple twists, and quite a good ending. Very much in the Columbo style this one.

The Grand Budapest HotelAnother great one! Everyone puts in a great performance, but holy hell Ralph Fiennes steals the show as Gustave! Well, that's me all caught up now.

Batman & Mr. Freeze: SubZero this morning. Such a freaking travesty that this movie got delayed because of Batman & Robin being a trainwreck. SubZero is actually good.

Green Hornet, what a load of old sh.t. Yeah. It’s not great... At least Christoph Waltz looks like they might be enjoying himself. Even if his performance is rather awkward.

Seeing a lot of chatter about Ghost of Tsushima on my timeline the last few days and finding myself wanting to play it, but with no income right now I don't really want to drop $80 on a game. So tonight I thought I'd try to exorcise my Kurosawa 'demons' by watching Yojimbo. I'm not sure it helped, but it certainly was a wonderful way to spend an evening just the same.

The Saint (1997)
Has its moments. But overall is rather rubbish and not even close to the quality of the original Saint.

Local Hero
(Like a big screen version of "Monarch of the Glen" with the added bonus of an understated late entry by Capaldi)

The Wind in the Willows (2006)
A delightful BBC adaptation of the classic Kenneth Grahame story. Has Matt Lucas as Mr Toad and Mark Gatiss as Ratty so you know it’s just worth a watch.

The Old Guard. I love Charlize Theron but this was terrible, just made me want to watch the far superior Highlander.
