Aside from a couple of Western films on Youtube, I've recently watched the first & third 'Bionicle' films for the first time in fifteen-odd years (well, I had them playing in the background whilst I did other things, but -)... 'Mask Of Light' I adored as ever (it was one of my favourite things growing up and I still have a soft-spot for it) and 'Web Of Shadows' is fine-enough...
At the moment I'm finishing up 'Superintelligence'. It's... Alright, I guess? Whilst it's far from the best film I've seen recently, it's also certainly not the worse. Fine, it's fine.

Run, it is a bit predictable but its a fun 90 minute thriller & good to see a real wheelchair user (actress Keira Allen) playing a person with disabilities. & Sarah Paulson is always good.

Dug out an old very early 80's slasher horror "Happy Birthday To Me". I clearly remember hiring it from the local video shop late 80's and seeing 1 of the dead bodies at the end "readjust herself"- she clearly moves her head, right arm and leg.. Acting 101 quality.

The New Adventures of Pippi Longstocking (1988)
An EXTREMELY nostalgic film for me. I also have a great fondness for the books by Astrid Lingerd as well.
Ended up having to dig out an old VHS copy of this as it’s unfortunately (at least as far as I know) never been released on DVD in Britain.

Mangrove, the first of Steve McQueen's Small Axe films. Really good, looking forward to seeing the rest.

Black Christmas - Came out the same year as Texas Chainsaw, together they pioneered the slasher genre. In both cases, they are modestly budgeted films that wear their grindhouse heritage on their sleeves, yet transcend them. Black Christmas takes its time. No jump scares here, nor are there buckets of blood. It builds tension slowly, but efficiently. It's a very tightly paced, well directed film, which more than makes up for some questionable performances here and there (also what the hell is Jess' accent supposed to be?). It also has a nice leavening of humor. Witty comments and foul-mouthed snark abound. There's some really weird characters in this film, like Mrs Mac (what an old lush), the offbeat search party volunteers, the old man who shoots a cop in the ass for trespassing. It gives everything a nice sense of small-town quirk that wouldn't be out of place on Twin Peaks or Northern Exposure. I got a kick out of how hard this movie tries to pretend it takes place in the States, when the liquor, swearing, hockey, and some rather thick accents belie its origins in my native Canada. Lots of fun, check it out. {Spoiler} The calls are coming from inside the house!

Lovers Rock. Wow what a wonderful film that captures the atmosphere of a West Indian house party in the early 80s.

Utterly dreadful and I have no clue how it ever got made. And when it comes to PSAs it says a great deal when Charlie Says had more subtlety.

Street Trash - A murderous 'Nam vet, a bunch of dirty hobos, and cheap liquor that melts you into a pile of Technicolor goop if you drink it. This movie made me feel like I had lice. Ick.

Last night I watched "A Hard Day's Night" for the first time in ten-odd years, and it's safe to say I enjoyed it as ever (the fact that I reference it in the script I've been writing for a year now is never here nor there ) I watched my VHS copy when I was younger so often that I did indeed wear it out...
