King Kong (2005)
Still visually impressive but it just goes on for far too bloody long. The New York sequence drags especially.

Decided to do another stab at the Avengers movies since I am now immersing myself in Marvel comics and I totally fell in love with a) Tony and b) Squirrel Girl (who sadly did not make it into the MCU yet). I loved the first Avenger Movie, I adore Civil War and Iron Man 3. I was okay with Spiderman Homecoming. I like Ragnorok. But I had been suffering from a big superhero fatigue and have not watched anything since. There, I said it. I have NOT seen Black Panther, I have not yet seen Far From Home, and I have NOT seen the last 2 Avenger movies. So, I thought time to change that. Got them all on Prime, ready to fire up. So up today- Age of Ultron. BIG confession- I HATED the movie when I first saw it and it was part of the reason I did not bother with the sequels. (and since I had been spoilered about who lives and dies ages ago, I saw even less reason to bother) So, what did I think on re-watch Ultron? It was okay. I certainly liked the character stuff, especially for Cliff Barton and Black Widow and Bruce Banner. I love Tony. I just like flawed hero characters, and he is always just one step away from slipping from "arrogant abusive jerk with a heart of gold" into villain territory. I admit Age of Ultron is much better than I remember. But I still think Ultron just comes across as a very one dimensional villain. He just is nobody we can root for, like for example Loki (who is just awesome) or Tony in Civil War (I admit, I am on team Tony). And yes, the character stuff is what elevates this movie, much less than all the explosions and sfx do. So now I have to make my way through the rest of these movies. And, just in case, I just read a bunch of Iron Man comics,
{Spoiler} so I know what Tony does to cheat death. Basically what any sci-fi ENGINEER with unlimited resources would do to achieve immortality. So I know it won't be over for him. Yeah, there is still a chance for that Squirrel Girl/ Iron Man team up blockbuster movie.

As someone who has been reading comics and started watching the old 60's Spiderman and Fantastic Four and 70's Batman cartoons in the verrry late 70's (now watch them with my son).. I will never get the "fatigue" The press release which shows 6-7 more releases this year alone: I am there day 1. BTW.. I think storyline wise, Avengers 3 is slightly better than #4.. Except the final battle sequence is just next-level awesomeness. :-)

Well, you were lucky as a kid. I always had a huge interest in superhero comics, and the younger brother of my dad was an avid collector. When he died, my dad either gave all the collection away or threw them out, no matter when we kids (7 years I think Í was) said we would love the comics. I was told a) I was too young and b) I had two XX chromosomes which made "boy" comics automatically unsuitable for me (this basically sums up my relationship with my parents in a nutshell). I also was never allowed to watch the Saturday morning cartoons. They rot the brain apparently. You cannot image how much of a treat it was when one day, my dad had recorded the cheesy Adem West Batman film. Or when I watched Condorman on holiday kids TV. I was in LOVE.
However, I do go through phases with my interests. For some months it is comics, then books, then it is audios, then it is TV series, then it is movies.... But at least, I never lose interest completely and so far, I have always come back to my core interests and re-join them with renewed interest when I do come back.

Big Trouble in Little China (1986)
One of the greatest movies ever made. Easily right up there alongside the likes of Flash Gordon.

They wasn't, Patty Jenkins on a ego trip thinking she can write as good as she directs....she cant. Awful movie, naff plot, boring twaddle shocking cgi Cheetah & the usually excellent Pedro Pascal hamming it up to 100. Steve Trevor ace WW 1 pilot who can miraculously fly a modern jet.

Yesterday I watched the 2011 'Green Hornet' film for the first time. Whilst it was, of course, not the greatest thing I've seen recently, it actually wasn't (quite) the steaming pile of sh*t I had heard it was...

Avengers Infinity War. Well... I liked it. This was a good entertaining movie with a great engaging villain, who has his own twisted idea about how he is a force for good and wants to save the universe. Lots of explosions, but also lots of emotions and character drama. The whole thing reminded me a lot of Star Wars, and it was certainly set up in a way similar to Empire Strikes Back, and Thanos also somehow works like an amalgamation of Darth Vader and the Emperor. This certainly was A LOT more Fantasy than it was Sci-Fi, but that is not necessarily a bad thing. I also got emotionally moved by all the loss, but maybe because I had been spoilered on who lives and who dies ages ago, not as much as I would have been otherwise. I also had not expected that so much of the movies would play out in space, I had expected more Earth bound action, so that was a surprise. And I still love Tony. He tries to appear as this aloof arrogant abusive a**hole, but he cares sooo much. The ending was heartbreaking. Looking forward to Endgame.

Arlo the Alligator Boy
Weird but cute and heartwarming animated musical about a half human half alligator boy who travels with his group of misfit friends to find his birth father in New York City. I liked certain aspects of this movie a lot although I wish the music was a lot better! There was way too much auto tuning! I wish the music had a more retro/timeless feel to it than what they went with which was a bit too modern mainstream pop which I think will date the movie a lot. I appreciate the message behind it though and I liked how strange and quirky it was. It was also a little too frantically paced it would have been better if it took it’s time a little more. I do have a soft spot for movies about outsiders especially beings who aren’t quite human trying to fit into human society. Not a perfect movie but definitely worth trying.
Sidenote: My parents did not appreciate it as much as I did though. My mom sat up after it was over and asked: “What was that and why was it so weird?!” My Dad said: “From now on no more animated movies unless they are old! I need real people!”
Oh well I enjoyed parts of it anyways 🤷🏻♀️😊 I will still try new animated movies if they look interesting!

Those Who Wish Me Dead. An ok very 90s style thriller with Angelina Jolie as a troubled forest fire fighter trying to help a young boy escape assassins.

Got Mothra vs. Godzilla (1964) on right now. Silly, but very entertaining - much better than either of the two previous movies. Not as good as the original, but the best one since.

Aaaand... I finished Endgame. Hmm. It was good. But I agree with the notion that is was not as good as the previous movies. Not sure if I appear to be too critical when I say that it somehow lacked focus. It did not really know what it wanted to be, so in the end we get this really weird mash-up of time travel heist epic space saga Lord of the Rings battle with superhero sprinkle. With added "hooray!" and tears. The parts by themselves were totally fine. I liked most of it. For me it just did not come together to become greater than the sum of it's parts, however. In my opinion, with all the ideas they had crammed into this, they could have easily added another movie. Made this two parts, to give it some room to breathe. But maybe that would have been too expensive and in hindsight would have hit a wall in the form of the COVID pandemic. Maybe. Anyways, otherwise, visuals were fine (of course watching this on the big screen instead of my little laptop would have been way more epic). Some nice and fun ideas like failure Thor. And Tony gets to be the most epic hero of all. Side notes- I am sure it is NO coincidence that old Steve Rogers looks like a carbon copy of Joe Biden. Wow, now that was a pretty bold political statement. I know that the actors of this ensemble did not hide their thoughts on the other guy who lost the election, but I had not expected something like this. I am no fan of the other guy, but somehow, I find this a tiny bit wrong in a movie that was bound to be a blockbuster and viewed by millions. Makes me wonder if this had influenced something. Subconsciously.
Edit- now I have to see the other Marvel movies I have not seen yet. There are still a few I need to get though, like Black Panther and Far from Home.

Subconsciously. Er....it's not like the movie just came out or anything It was filmed in summer/fall 2017, did its pickup/reshoots in late 2018/early 2019, and then had its Hollywood red carpet premiere (Apr 22, 2019) three days before Biden even announced (Apr 25, 2019) that he'd be participating in the Democratic primaries, never mind whether he'd end up being the final D candidate on election day over a year and a half after that (Nov 8, 2020). There's no statement here....at the risk of echoing the film itself, the timeline is all wrong
