At last I have seen Joker.
Everything people say about Joaquin Pheonix's brilliant performance is true, in fact all of the acting is pretty great. I did have issues with ...
{Spoiler} ... a killer dressed as a clown, who had shot three men and been fired from his job as a children's entertainer for having a gun, being able to get on to a live television broadcast - with the gun - hosted by the bloke who had publicly ridiculed him days earlier ... with no security checks at all!
However, I am reliably informed this was based on true events, so what do I know?
Other than that though, a really good, thought-provoking film.
It does make you wonder what other Batman villains would suit this treatment. Maybe the Riddler? Someone who believes themselves intellectually superior to the people around him (and is!) but quickly succumbs to his own obsessions and compulsions.

The Meg (2018)
After a rotten day sometimes you just want to watch Jason Statham fight a giant prehistoric shark, you know?

Apollo 13
Still on a bit of a space fix, and this was an excellent film.

Pig Nicolas Cage's new film. When the trailer dropped many scoffed. Cage looking for his lost truffle pig? Must be one of his crazy movies? Well, no. It's a deep, involving meditation on grief, isolation and family. There's a scene with a gourmet chef where Cage does the best acting he's done since Leaving Las Vegas. A stunning performance. The Bingo Long Traveling All-Stars & Motor Kings A group of players in the 1930s "Negro League" of baseball decide to throw away their bosses and go into business for themselves as a kinda proto Harlem Globetrotters. Billy Dee Williams is Bingo Long and he just OOZES Charisma. What a great screen prescence. His co-lead is the grumpy James Earl Jones so 8 years before Empire we have Lando and Darth Vader as best buddies. Richard Pryor also has an early-ish role. Fun movie which will brighten anyone's day.

Well, not a film but today I watched some filming for The Flash movie, with Batman on hand (Affleck's stunt double), and we had the Pattinson Batman filming here not long ago. Last week I watched Indiana Jones filming on my lunch break with the city centre turned into New York in 1969 to welcome the Apollo astronauts home. We're also seeing parts of the city being set up to be the Burton-verse Gotham for Michael Keaton's Batman, again for Flash. 3 Batmen in one year for Glasgow.

The Godfather Part III, except the new "Coda" version that came out last year, to see if the edits improved it any.
They did not. It's still terrible.

A Lady Mislaid (1958). An unremarkable British B picture based on a play & it shows, set in a single location. 2 sisters in a cottage find out about possible murderous goings on by the previous tenant. Only 60 mins so fine to pass the time.
Doctor Who actors - Alan White (The Tenth Planet), Richard Leech (The Sun Makers).

Rewatching the original Planet of the Apes for the nth time. Hadn't actually planned on watching it today, but got a last minute invite to participate in a friend's movie podcast tonight so I wanted a refresher and I hadn't watched it yet... this year

Doctor Who actors - Honor Blackman (Terror of the Vervoids), Beatrix Lehmann (The Stones of Blood)

Raising a Riot (1955). Amiable enough light comedy about a father who returns from the Navy & has to take care of his kids while his wife is away.
Doctor Who actors - Erik Chitty (The Massacre, The Deadly Assassin), Caroline John (Spearhead from Space, Doctor Who and the Silurians, The Ambassadors of Death, Inferno, The Five Doctors, Dimensions in Time) Victor Maddern (Fury from the Deep).
