I think Billy2 (Tim)and his Timelines got namechecked by Sophie Aldred in the Interviews Regards Oh my goodness! Is that right? I've not heard 'Life of Crime' yet.
Well, I did provide Sophie (as well as Sarah Sutton) with a link to my 'Bradley's Basement' blog when I saw her last time at the 'Science of the Time Lords' event in Leciester in January this year. I also gave her (and Sylvester McCoy, Peter Davison and Sarah Sutton of their characters) a copy of Ace's timeline as a gift at the convention. She was very impressed with it.
If Sophie has mentioned me and my timelines in those interviews, then that's very nice and kind of her to do that! Thanks Sophie!
Tim.
Excellent news & couldn't happen to a nicer bloke, we ought to campaign for Tims wonderful Fifth Doctor scripts to get a Big Finish adaption now.

The whole regeneration thing didn't quite have the impact it would have, in part because we know that there's a certain status quo the story needs to get back to by the end. What does Matt Fitton have against people in suits? It was business consultants in The Wrong Doctors, now he's comparing loan sharks to quantum cuttlefish! Not sure what the twist with Nathan being Lefty's past self was meant to be, but it could have been cut out of the story, Nathan being an undercover cop trying to bust a heist from the inside.
Was the quantum nature of the sperovores and eliminating some of Mel's potential futures a convoluted way of saying Head Games isn't in the Big Finish canon?

Point me to them! They are all a excellent engaging read, each story has it's own pace & tone & Tim writes such wonderful rich characters, my favourite is Doom Of The Daleks, the final chapter literally gave me goosebumps.

I didn't really like this story. It may have been partially because I can't stand Mel, but I thought it was kind of dumb. I also couldn't understand a thing that the tentacle monsters were saying, and the fake out regeneration didn't really work when we already know how and when Seven regenerates. I also didn't really understand the purpose of the time paradox at the end, or why it was affecting the tentacle monsters. Were there any hints that I missed earlier in the story that the cop and Lefty were the same person?

I haven't listened to this one yet but i was wondering if it tells you how long it's been since Mel left the Doctor for Mel & how long its been for the Doctor & Ace?

I haven't listened to this one yet but i was wondering if it tells you how long it's been since Mel left the Doctor for Mel & how long its been for the Doctor & Ace? The Doctor and Ace have been through the Hex saga, in the middle of which Ace wonders how long she's been around for. There isn't a noticeable difference in how Mel sounds, but she's become a lot more cynical (she doesn't even tolerate Ace calling her 'doughnut') and has clearly been around Glitz too long, being able to spot Gloria's con very easily and being the one who actually comes up trumps in the story. It's a better reunion than Head Games in the New Adventures, where Mel has been left hanging by Glitz, is very upset with how Virgin has treated the Doctor and Ace and parts with him on very bad terms.

Thanks guys so it's definitely after Hex for Ace & Seven. In the You are the Doctor anthology Ace mentions Hex when the Doctor is being cagey (Hex took major issue with the Doctor's habit of keeping secrets and Ace is no doubt playing on any residual guilt the Doctor has over the consequences), while A Life of Crime specifically references two stories from that anthology collection, in the context that the TARDIS has been deliberately seeking out Mel (hence the arrival on Ricosta in this story).

I enjoyed this one, the heist aspect was fun. And I liked hearing what Mel was up to. I kind of expect this trilogy is setting her up to have a better end than what she got in the TV series (at least I hope so). Also it seems Ace may not like having Mel back so that should lead to some interesting character development.
And it was great to hear Sophie mention our Billy's timeline's in the Extras.

Were there any hints that I missed earlier in the story that the cop and Lefty were the same person? I think the idea was that the tentacle monsters partially fed on young-lefty after they had fully fed on old-lefty, and that was bad because young-lefty was about to bleed out and die, hence, they'd eaten a paradox. Which doesn't entirely make sense because they let the Doctor take him to get healed, so there wasn't a paradox (anymore?), and in fact this must be what always happened because old-lefty was there at the start....

I thought it was pretty good, but I definitely agree that some of the voices were hard to understand.
There also seems to be an occasional problem with the sound mixing. People will be talking at what is supposed to be a conversational tone, but the volume seems to randomly alternate between loud and soft so I end up having to turn the volume higher than I'd like. Don't think it's my earbuds playing up but who knows....

Sadly, after a promising start, this dissolved into a strangely disappointing story. Often incomprehensible, somewhat cliched alien villains, and a series of events requiring too many references to Sabalom Glitz. Too many, because with Glitz not actually appearing, the whole thing turns into a continuity-fest. To explain - remember when an ongoing television series loses a cast member at short notice, and the remaining characters have to jump through hoops to explain where the character has gone? This whole story was like one of those scenes - slightly awkward and never entirely 'whole'. With Tony Selby's apparent unavailability, Glitz should have been given a passing mention and nothing more - to base so much of the narrative on him, without him actually turning up, made 'Lofe of Crime' difficult to invest in, for me. Ah well. It's good to have Mel back and I still think (and hope) that the next two stories in the trilogy will make better use of her.

Fantastic release and reintroduction to Mel. Very intrested to see where this arc will go in relation to Seven, Mel and Ace's relationship.

Too many, because with Glitz not actually appearing, the whole thing turns into a continuity-fest. Really? I think I was taking the references as a necessary part of other people's lives in the story having become rather entangled with that of Glitz (and not likely for the better of course, as the story seems dedicated to exploring).

I like this one, if only for the fact that it makes Mel interesting. I never disliked her, but I always found her boring, particularly compared to her successor. But now that she has some characterization beyond "computer programmer from the 80s who screams on key", I find that I'm really interested in finding out what happens to her next.
Additionally, as someone else observed earlier in the thread, the cast has some great chemistry, and I really liked the extras.
