I disagree. I think the new series audios are stronger than the classic series ones. They seem to take more effort into making them feel special. Completely disagree with our post, both the classic & new series each deliver strong written stories, The Two Masters was insanely good as was The Peterloo Massacre which actually made me cry with it's powerful retelling of history. I never said I disliked the classic series releases - they are wonderful - but between the two the new series releases are stronger in my view.

At the risk of revealing too much...
These are brilliant.
Truly truly brilliant.
Even better than the Tennant box set

As often seems to be the case, I agree fully with you. I liked the Tennant ones quite a bit, putting them somewhere between 8.5/10-9/10, but they weren't quite as good as the two you mention. They didn't have quite the same weight or depth.

I think the best of the Classic series stand up well, even if the average quality is a bit lower. The challenge will be maintaining the quality when they produce as much New Series as Classic.

Well, the 8th Doctor audios make up the majority of Who audios I've heard...so could I say I prefer the wilderness years Doctor to either the classic or New Who audios?

And the 8th doctor story happens in the actual time war...

And the 8th doctor story happens in the actual time war... I'm most excited about this story. I thought "The Rulers of the Universe" was superb and I'm excited to hear more of the Time War-era Eight. Also wondering if it connects to Andrew Smith's other Sontaran/Time War story in the upcoming War Doctor set. Tin Dog, you seem to have heard Classic Docs New Monsters already. Can the stories be listened to out of order?

I know I've said this before, but Big Finish really need to rethink their release date policy with their licencise expansion. I know it's all about the masterstrokes and Big Finish is a company of quality, but releasing UNIT: Shutdown late in the month (with little forewarning to the actual date) wasn't the best move and the same is happening this month with the Classic Doctors, New Monsters set.
If there are significant delays, I don't get why Big Finish don't make an announcement ands set a concrete date early in the subsquent month. These are releases of significant intrest to wider fandom and casual customers - it's not as if people aren't prepared to wait.

I actually think it's a smart move psychologically, building anticipation by not having people know when it will come out. Frustrating, but from a marketing perspective very effective.

For Gods sake just release the damm box set Big Finish & stop the pratting about. It wasn't on this week's list of releases, so I wouldn't expect it this week. I'm not sure what pratting about you are referring to?

These are releases of significant intrest to wider fandom and casual customers - it's not as if people aren't prepared to wait. There are logistical issues in terms of production and distribution. When I started listening in 1999-2000, they used to give a specific date...only to keep missing it and frustrating a lot of anxious fans in the process. Somewhere along the line, the policy shifted to just specifying the month with the understanding that you could count on the last day of the month as the "official" release date and anything before then would be a bonus. To be fair to BF, they've made an effort to balance things out by 1) offering an instant download of the title the moment it's released (so you don't have to wait for the mail to arrive) and 2) hanging onto the pre-order price for a little bit longer. That latter point has been great for me. I've stopped pre-ordering and try to gauge some early reviews before making a decision.

Looking forward to this release - but does anyone know why Tom's Doctor is not included in this set? Part of me wonders if Tom's involvement (i.e., his fee) would also end up bumping up the price. I'm thinking of the unusually high cost of that Philip Hinchcliffe set. Just my own speculation - I have no insider info on that. I've wondered the same thing myself more than once but if you consider their run times, I think both the Hinchcliffe box set and the Fourth Doctor Lost Stories boxset are comparably priced with the individual 4DAs (and 8DAs) per hour of story, at least for the downloads. Likely the same with the CDs but I didn't try to figure that one out. Don't know what that means to any likelihood of a CDNM release with the Fourth Doctor but I'd certainly buy it.

I'm a little unsure as to what you mean there - that rather than a release being in the second half of the month, it should be postponed longer to the start of the next month? Why? Just to get a specific day? There's usually a few days warning of when things are incoming. And let's be fair - there is no significant delays here, we're only on the 20th of the month!

I am happy to get them as soon as they make them available, it's very rare a release is actually late.

Right.
The preview copy hit last week.
They say. Don't post before its released or the 29th.
Does that help?
Usually we get them a week before. But that's still fine.
Ok?
