The Anne Manx series. Starring Claudia Christian and Pat Tallman from Babylon 5. Quite funny. Sci Fi/Comedy. It's available on bandcamp digitally if you have not heard it before & would like to listen to something non big finish. There are seven 2 hrs episodes in the main series. Plus some spins offs. radiorepertory.bandcamp.com/

I knew Claudia Christian had done some voice acting (she's like every other female NPC in Skyrim) but had no idea she'd done audio dramas. Will definitely have to check that out!

A lot of fun to hear. Patricia Tallman is excellent in it as well. The actor who played Byron (Robin Atkin Downes) in B5 Season 5, also appears in 1 of the episodes.

The Queen’s Nose (Dick King Smith)
Dramatised by Elizabeth Kuti. An adaptation of the original book by the BBC Children’s Classics series. Extremely short and rather charming.
Perfectly captures what a young child would wish for had they had the power to make such wishes. Thankfully, the main character in this is sensible than most so don’t expect anything too outlandish.

The Winged Coven (Paul Magrs)
Read by Susan Jameson. It’s very entertaining and full of Paul Magrs’s’ sense of whimsy. And I really like Mrs Wibbsey as a character so I’ll have to check out the Nest Cottage Chronicles when I get the chance.

Listening to Daniel Sloss’ new book, narrated by Sloss himself, Everyone You Hate is Going to Die. One of those absolute comic geniuses in my opinion and am loving the audiobook.

Blood on Satan’s Claw (Mark Morris)
I must admit I know very little about the original film aside from its rather legendary status (in certain circles) but I thought this was a fantastic and I must admit from what I’ve read a very faithful adaptation.
Hard to believe this was all crowdfunded to be honest.

Vicious Vikings (Adapted by Terry Deary and Nick Baker)
Not as funny as the Savage Stone Age episode but it has its moments.

The Demon Cakestand of Beastly Chase (James Hendrie)
An episode from 1984’s The Mausoleum Club which lampoons several M.R. James stories. Even though the cast gives very good performances I unfortunately didn’t find it all that funny.

Men of War (Justin Richards)
Performed by Peter Purves. A very sombre piece, quite apt for a story set in one of the worst wars in human history. And Purves as it goes without saying makes for a fine reader.

The Ringer (Edgar Wallace)
Adapted for radio by Hugh Stewart and Archie Campbell in 1951. Quite slow paced but has some good performances.

Mary Poppins
A 2004 BBC dramatisation by Hazel Marshall. Definitely a lot to like about this one even if it is merely a highlights reel of scenes from the first and second book. Juliet Stevenson makes for a far more literary accurate Poppins than the Disney version and the music is excellent.
It’s quite frankly easy to see why this one has been repeated numerous times.

These are very well made. A shame that the Doctor is so bland.

The Celestial Toymaker (Brian Hayles)
Narrated by Peter Purves. Obviously, Purves’s’ narration is excellent and I must admit after reading the Target novelisation and listening to it in audio form I do think this is one story that benefits more without the visuals.

James story it was based on, it’s short and sweet. Not to mention accompanied by some excellent sound design.

Currently making a start on ‘A Whisper in the Ear’ the first in a series of stories written by Sheila Hodgson inspired by the fragments of story ideas as outlined in M.R. James’s’ essay ‘Stories I Have Tried to Write’
Sound quality is pretty dire but I do rather like the idea of M.R. James pottering about encountering various strange happenings.

‘Turn, Turn, Turn’ (Sheila Hodgson)
First broadcast in 1977. The second story of Hodgson’s take on M.R. James. An excellent tale definitely in keeping with the tone of James’s’ work.
