Marvel’s Wastelanders: Star Lord (Benjamin Percy)
The first in a series of audio dramas (Apparently they still can’t get their heads around the concept of something that isn’t a podcast) based in the universe of Old Man Logan. Although, if truth be told it’s a strange amalgamation of both regular Marvel comics continuity and the MCU but it works.
It’s quite entertaining with strong performances all around but if truth be told it also really drags in parts and sometimes I find it hard to distinguish between Rocket and Star Lord in terms of voices at times. Also does commit the cardinal sin of having overly descriptive dialogue but it does have a narrative device to accommodate that so it ultimately isn’t too egregious.

Fury from the Deep (Victor Pemberton)
Narrated by Frazer Hines. Well deserving of it’s almost legendary reputation. Extremely atmospheric and despite being a rather long story it doesn’t drag at all.

I was referring to the original television soundtrack. 🙂

It were Tom Baker when I were a lad.

Advanced the Nest Cottage Chronicles: Demon Quest
That was a bit disappointing. The Demon could be a nasty antagonist at times but it’s plots were so repetitive and just amounted to so little, and the stories themselves often took so long to get to the point. At least Baker, Franklin and Jameson are on good form.

The New Adventures of Baron Munchhausen (2020)
Written by James Robertson. A series of short stories focusing on a modern day direct descendant of the famous storyteller and adventurer. Very much has a strong ecological theme running throughout with a lot of not so subtle commentary on then current events.
To be honest, I’m just a little surprised not much has been done with the fictional Baron Munchhausen since the Terry Gilliam film. You feel like he’s the sort of person the Doctor would have at least bumped into once. Or twice.

The Hairy Hand of Dartmoor (Michael McStay)
Starring Struan Rodgers and Angela Pleasance. A satisfying take on an old legend. All in all, it’s rather unfortunate that compared to the Valentine Dyall era and the Mark Gatiss led successor Fear on Four appears to have been forgotten.
The Rat King (John Connolly)
Read by Peter Marinker. A very gruesome take on the legend of the Pied Piper.

Aliens in the Mind (Rene Basilico)
Based on an idea from Robert Holmes and starring horror legends Vincent Price and Peter Cushing. It’s actually very well done and I’m surprised at just how quickly the plot moves along. Not to mention, Cushing and Price has some great chemistry with one another. But then again, that’s to be expected.
In an ideal world, this would have led to an ongoing series with the pair but unfortunately, we do not live in such a world.

I’ve unexpectedly listened all the way through Bluefax’s absolutely excellent performance of The Hobbit. I don’t know if I’ll ever be able to listen to an ordinary audiobook reading of the story again after this, it’s so good!

The Sandman (Neil Gaiman)
Dramatised by Dirk Maggs. Huzzah! Finally got around to listening to this after it was released many moons ago to critical acclaim. And what a real epic this was. Packed to the brim with great ideas and brilliant performances. Kat Denning’s performance as Death even grew on me after a while after initially thinking she was woefully miscast.
Roll on Volume Two, I say.

The upcoming Faction Paradox story. 🤐 Wait, what? Hasn't Baggs lost the Faction Paradox license, meaning any future Faction Paradox releases from BBV would be illegal?

The upcoming Faction Paradox story. 🤐 Wait, what? Hasn't Baggs lost the Faction Paradox license, meaning any future Faction Paradox releases from BBV would be illegal? As the person who got the license and had it taken from BBV, this is the case. Any Faction Paradox content from Bill and co. that comes after Lucifer is unlicensed fanfiction, and Lucifer itself isn’t canon to the current plans for the Faction on account of it being horrible. Like seriously, do not listen to it, whatever you do. Back to the topic of the thread, I recently listened to the Beyond the Doctor audios by Paul Magrs. Excellent stuff as always.
