A Thread for an amazing start to the master's life at Big Finish with Dust Breeding. Enjoy!

This is a fantastic story. Such a great build. Geoffry Beevers is fantastic, but there is a part of me that will always wonder how it would have been with Anthony Ainsley

Great audio drama, very eerie & one i found quite chilling to listen too, Geoffrey Beevers Vincent Prince tones are perfect for this decaying incarnation as the Master.
I remember hearing this wayyyyyyyy back upon release & i didn't have a clue Mr Seta was the Master, Doctor Who didn't get as much coverage back then so it was a great surprise.
This gets a solid 9/10, Mike Tucker is a great writer & hopefully writes some more Big Finish Doctor Who adventures.

Another one that I didn't "get" the first time I listened to it early on because I hadn't seen enough Classic Who to understand The Master. It was so much better on second listen. And there was something lovely about having Geoffrey Beevers in an audio with Caroline John. Had Bev been a character in any Seventh Doctor stories prior to this one. It felt a little like it should have been Benny instead.

Its very good
Though "Mr Seta" is criminally underused I feel Thank good or evil that's been put right in later productions.

Bev goes on to be a regular in the Benny range.

Thanks for the clarification I have not heard the Genocide Machine (guess I need to add that to my list) so I had no clue who Bev was. I did feel like I was missing something while listening to this.
I won't say this was my favorite story but it's always a pleasure to hear Beever's Master. Looked like he hit it out of the park right from his first performance at Big Finish.
And it was also lovely to hear Caroline John in another role. Also really enjoyed Ian Ricketts as Guthrie.

I guess she didn't make that much of an impression on me.

I think it was a very good move to bring back Geoffrey Beevers as the Master, I would have been sad to have missed out on him had Ainley decided to return instead. They wouldn't really have had any reason to invite Geoffrey back until Tom Baker had returned, but as it happens the bulk of his work with Big Finish was after 2012 anyway.
As for the story, i think i appreciate it more now than i used to. Originally, the constant screaming Dalek noises were so off putting, but the story was actually very enjoyable.

I wound up enjoying this one a lot. Because the early Big Finish releases are so inexpensive, I picked this up without looking too closely at the description and didn't know what I was getting. That's a factor in what I like so much about Big Finish. The stories draw on such a wealth of material and they're capable of pulling out genuine surprises in the way a lot of modern entertainment can't. There are times when I have no idea of what is going to happen next, and that's a great feeling. It's very evocative of Classic Who.
I tend to listen at work, and just as I was thinking "Well, this story had a strong beginning, but now it's starting to drag a little", I got to the reveal, and everything about the story became great.

Glad for this occasion because I think I'd somehow overlooked this. I guess I bought it very early on, confused it with The Sandman, and then thought I'd listened to both after I heard the one - but still very curious that I apparently managed to overlook The Master's Big Finish debut and an appearance by Caroline John. Might have been better if I hadn't known beforehand, lol, because I think I got overly attentive to Beever's performance and started bouncing off details of the plot, but it was very easy to do because I think Geoffrey was in fine form right from the start and it can be quite commanding of attention to hear him owning the role like that. I may have to give this another listen soon, no doubt I'll think even more highly of it when I catch the pieces of the story that I'm missing.

Duchamp 331. What a great name for a backwater dust-bowl of a planet. It has shades of an arid town somewhere in America's mid-west, tumbleweed and a rusty old gas station with folk just passing thru'.
I like this one. It has become one of half a dozen or so Doctor Who stories that I listen to (far too) often when I want something familiar. As with the other Monthly Range stories from Mike Tucker, it is well done and a good adventure. And the wind and the dust are relentless throughout, accompanied by a familiar-ish roar or scream that is hard to place.
Throw in a mad man running an artist colony out there amongst the dust, a luxury spaceship with some great supporting characters - not to mention the VIP mystery guest on board - en route to Duchamp for a big surprise 'event', and of course the 7th Doctor and Ace, accompanied by Bev Tarrant from The Genocide Machine, and you have a busy but enjoyable adventure.
Not a table topping classic, but I think it is great fun. 7 out of 10.
