And Dark Eyes 1 was all about Molly and the Daleks, but Dark Eyes 3 didn't have Molly, and Dark Eyes 4 didn't have Ruth Bradley. Thanks to the Sonomancer, we know that whatever the Doom Coalition is is made up of more than just the Eleven. We'll probably meet some new bad guys who will team up with the Eleven and the Sonomancer. We might even meet the Twelve or one of the first Ten. By the way, Molly was in Dark Eyes 3, but the Daleks weren't. Though I take your point Yeah, I meant to type Daleks.

But Doom Coalition is different from Dark Eyes because the arc of every box set was planned from the beginning, right? So there is less excuse for not giving tight arcs (and important characters suddenly not being important). Also Mark Bonnar plays every incarnation of The Eleven in the first two box sets. If we were going to meet an incarnation of The Eleven not played by Mark Bonnar surely earlier incarnations would have been played by different actors in the first two box sets? He only "plays" the earlier incarnations because they're all in his mind and all share the same body, hence same larynx, hence same voice when they take control of the body and speak They would have all looked/sounded different each time he regenerated Oh! Now I read that it seems obvious.

Oh. My. God. That was amazing. My favourite part was the first one but I loved the whole thing. Even River Song was pretty great - in the first half she was probably the best she has ever been, the second half... not so much, but still better than she has been on TV for a long time. My main complaint about the series so far has been the conflict of them wanting to do a 16 part epic but also wanting to do individual stories - that also showed in this set but to a much lower extent and there were more contributions to the overall plot than I was expecting. Overall, I was very happy with this set. It feels like it's getting back on track after the not very good Doom Coalition 2 and I am very excited to listen to the last set in a few months.

I just finished Absent Friends. Has to be up with with some of the best Eighth Doctor stories ever. I just loved this one. It had such a personal fell to it. The only real villain was the regrets of the characters. A really lovely story.

I agree with you , Absent Friends is a masterpiece and by far the best story from this box set (and from my point of view the best story of the Doom Coalition saga so far). Don't get me wrong I really enjoyed the three others, but Absent Friends is on a whole other level. I don't often cry listening to Big Finish stories, but I could not stay dry-eyed during the end of this one.

Wow and wow! Best Eighth Doctor box set ever IMHO. I just finished Absent Friends. Has to be up with with some of the best Eighth Doctor stories ever. I just loved this one. It had such a personal fell to it. The only real villain was the regrets of the characters. A really lovely story. All that, and I think it still found a way to be every bit as eerie as The Red Lady as well. Well done, Mr. Dorney!! - and thanks to everyone who helped made this set so special. What a treat!

Oh, man. I really enjoyed DC3! It's definitely a step up from DC2, and probably my favourite out of the three DC boxsets so far. Definitely looking forward to DC4! {Spoiler} Also River and Eight actually got to interact face-to-face (sort of), which was about time. And that ending to The Crucible of Souls!

Absent Friends the absolute highlight of Doom Coalition thus far. I actually teared up at Liv's second conversation with her father, in part due to the return of some of the music from Robophobia, only more heartbreaking. Damn you dorney ! I also love that there was never anything alien and sinister going on, just a dodgy businessman who the Doctor couldn't be bothered dealing with. Seems it's not just humans who look for patterns where there are none. Time Lords are also prone. I still haven't got much of a handle of Helen as her own character. And that cliffhanger, March 2017 can't come soon enough! By the way, a brilliant alternate title for the first story would be Everything Left Unsaid, as it ties into the theme of finally being able to say good bye and get closure over a traumatic event.

Now THIS was brilliant! Easily the best box set yet! I agree that Absent Friends is the best of this set, but I truthfully loved every story - ESPECIALLY The Crucible of Souls!

Was Dorney insulting Dan Starkey in The Crucible of Souls? There were a few lines in that one that left me in stitches.

I just finished this set and I just love it so much. They finally figured out a way to have River appear in a story without being a disembodied voice or relying on The Doctor's poor memory. I already commented on how much I love Absent Friends, and that hasn't changed. It was an stand-out opening to an all around great story. I really felt that I could visualize this entire set better than most. It was vividly portrayed through the script and sound design. Just perfect. I remember having some problems with the sound design and mixing of DC 2.
I did have a problem at times differentiating between Octavius and The Clockmaker a few times, but not too often. I also haven't really felt the need for Helen, I'm not sure what she really brings to the table other than making poor decisions or as a hostage for The Nine. I really wanted to like her but instead she's just kind of there.

I really wanted to like her but instead she's just kind of there. I feel the same about Helen. The only time she's really been necessary as a companion with her own knowledge and skill set that contributed to the plot outside of her introduction was back in story two of Doom Coalition 2, where she identified with Caleera as a victim. Otherwise she's been used to further another thread of the story. Not much from Hattie in the extras disc either.
