Finished listening to all but the interviews. On the 4th story I forgot that there was another volume and so the cliffhanger was a bit of a shock. Now we have 5 months until the next volume comes out. Loads of fun.

Has BF made any announcements about what they're doing with the Eighth Doctor after Doom Coalition 4, apart from his Time War boxset?

Not that I know of. Maybe I'll ask Nick at LI Who next month.

I know I shouldn't have, but I've just listened to Absent Friends. I don't have the words, but this has to be one of the best pieces dorney has written. It's certainly among the best stories I've ever heard and is supremely acted by everyone! Fantastic, stirring, emotional stuff. Now I need to get back to a doom-laden coalition Cheers Tony

I will echo the general consensus that this was an excellent box set. However unlike the majority I thought that it got better as it went along.
I loved all the mistaken/mixed up identities of the last disc.
A few little thoughts or niggles... 1, the trailer gave away the fact that Padric was going to turn out bad, so unlike who Octavian was that came as a zero surprise. 2, why did Liv and Helen assume it was the Doctor who was regenerating? They knew what the Doctor was wearing - in my mind it isn't that Dustman's coat on the cover and certainly wouldn't be what Octavian was wearing. (I plan to relisten, perhaps I missed something) 3, I love a good cliffhanger, but six months! Really I have to wait six long months to get more? Perhaps rather than a pre-order discount Big Finish should think about an early access premium!?

Not quite sure how - Padrac's not mentioned in the trailer, and doesn't have a single line in it either. 2. Octavian puts on the Doctor's coat to keep warm when he enters the TARDIS. 3. Yep. Six months.

Six months. Regarding the trailer when I originally heard it I thought that the first voice speaking "It is time to complete my masterpiece..." was Robert Bathurst. Hearing it again now it is blatantly obvious that it is the Clocksmith, but at the time I must have been subconsciously expecting Padrac to turn out to be a villain. My apologies I should have re-listened to it before making a negative comment about it. Regarding Octavian putting on the Doctor's coat, did I miss that in the audio or was that a visual I missed!? Regarding six months it gives me plenty of time to listen to this box set again and I can treat it as my penance for ever thinking that Big Finish would spoil a potential surprise.

I agree the first instalment was excellent, but essentially stand alone. The remaining parts is where the main interlinking story really kicks in. And although it is intricate I didn't find it complicated or hard to follow. Great cliffhanger - looking forward to part 4.

Yeah, the coat's there in the dialogue when he enters the TARDIS. Something like 'warm coat' and more - can't recall precisely!

Doom Coalition wasn't officially announced until Dark Eyes 4 was already out: www.bigfinish.com/news/v/doctor-who-doom-coalition---coming-soon (although we had heard hints - and the title - before that)

Is the Doctor not wearing his coat throughout The Crucible of Souls? Is he running around in just his white t-shirt? When did he take the jacket off? Sorry if too many questions, I'm just really curious!!

Just after getting caught in the mustard gas attack in the first story IIRC, he was covered in mud and the Oirish Stereotype cut his heir.

Sorry if too many questions, I'm just really curious!! I dislike the white T-shirt, it's just so... dull. I wish they developed his costume a bit more. I can't help but like much more both the TV Movie and TNOTD outfits One of the great things about audio is you can picture the characters in anything you want as long as it isn't directly contradicted in the story. Personally I picture the Dark Eyes/Doom Coalition Doctor wearing a roll-neck sweater underneath his black nautical coat. I too dislike the white T-shirt.

Absent Calls - Beautifully, sensitivily meditation on death and how we make sense of itwith The Doctor rightfully on the outer, with the spectre of the new series looming overwards. Another classic from John Dorney. and I'm so sorry to hear about his loss.
The Eighth Piece/The Doomsday Chronometer - River makes her proper Eighth Doctor Adventures debut with an appropiatetly wonderfully mind boggling time travelling adventure.a wonderfully camp, but nasty villain - an all too present reminder that the Doctor Who universe as we knew is changing irrecepecbly with a great twist.
The Crucible of Souls - The finale! A great finale. The Doom Coalion revealed! And not a bunch of super villians, but a terribly Time Lord response to the end. Nice played, Matt Fittion and John Dorney. If I have one compliant, it's that the mystery over who sprung The Eleven could have been built up a little more. I understand not wanting too many carrying over elements with River's arrival, but perhaps a few more suspects might have made that final reveal land a little more. Pandrec was perhaps, a little too easy of a guess.
If I have another compliant as well (and I can't believe there are people who are being cynical about this - it's Big Finish! KEEP THE FAITH!), it's that I do feel that River should have had a more concrete reason for being involved. Yes, she's still grabbling with the possibility of never seeing 'her' Doctor again and seeing an earlier pre-Time War Doctor is carthetic in her letting go of him and knowing that some of the burden of the Time War has been lifted from his shoulders and he can move on without her, but it still seems incredibly reckless for her to be involved with Eight so directly in his life at this stage.

I imagine that John Dorney will produce another classic Hopefully another brilliant episode like 'Absent Friends'
However I fear he won't be able to produce another brilliant character piece because the story arc and it being the final box set will place demands on him to have a checklist of things he has to put in the story and where he has to start and where he has to end Unless of course he has produced the holy grail of an audio drama which is both a brilliant character study ,for say Hattie this time instead of Nicola , and ticks all the boxes literally of an action episode for Doom Coalition I wouldn't be surprised if John dorney has pulled it off because every story he's done lately seems to get better and better For example 'the trouble with Drax' is about as perfect a 4th Dr story as you could want, being both a brilliant Hustle/The Sting story and great adventure Plus 'the two masters' is even a greater finale than I could have hoped for the multi master trilogy and gave Geoffrey Beevers an epic tour-de-force
