Nope from me too. Refusing to provide fuel to this nonsense. Agreed, this is complete and total nonsense.

Also, paulmorris777, I just want to say that this constant fighting people who enjoy Nuwho and their opinions has gotten out of hand. While I am a big fan of debate, there is a line that I feel you have crossed. However, please do not take this personally because I genuinely enjoy your wonderful posts about the positives of Classic Who and even though might not always agree with you, I respect your opinion on Nuwho. Also, please don't ever feel that you are not welcome here, we just don't want this bickering. Again, please don't take this personally and I hope I haven't angered you in any way. Have a good day.

I like both equally, Delgrado does cold and calculating very well, whilst I find Gomez's Master hillarious, but twisted and unpredictable, and both are i.m.o great foils to their respective Doctors. I've never found the Master a particularly interesting villain though these two (and McQueen) are certainly fun to watch.

Michelle Gomez was brilliant as Missy, but Roger Delgado is The Master as far as I am concerned.

Yes. I respect that you have your right to an opinion and to share it, regardless of what that opinion is and how I feel about it, but please don't preach it excessively.

As for TV, I definitely prefer Delgado.
But as I said in one thread or another, if everything is tallied up I think Beevers followed by Macqueen are my all-around favorites.

Very well said. Not participating in this poll. It's comparing apples and oranges and makes no sense. No battling from me.

Oh definitely, that's my position too. Basically Big Finish Masters > Classic series Masters > New Series Masters, however that does allow for a new series Master to come into the BF fold someday.

Delgado will always be my favorite Master, but Gomez is a close second. She is certainly better than any of the other Classic TV Masters. Either way, it seems a bit silly to have a poll that only includes two Masters.

My personal beef is simply that New Who seems to want the master to be wacky-crazy, whereas in the classic series & BF, he's mostly evil and only part crazy. Gomez is a great actress, of course, but the capering about and joking while fondling dalek balls, kissing the Doctor, etc, didn't rub me the right way.

Nor me, but the impression I get with Gomez is that it's an act she's putting on for the benefit of the humans. It's like the Doctor's obfuscating stupidity trick where he pretends to be far more daft than he actually is, only she's playing into their preconceptions and using them to judge where they'll instinctively jump. You'll notice that she drops it almost completely when she's talking with the Doctor alone herself, everything is reigned in and very nearly rational like they're sharing some great secret only the two of them know.

Its just the differences between the incarnations. The Classic series didn't really give us a wide variety of incarnations, because the Anthony Ainley Master was just a poor man's Roger Delgado Master. The Simm and Macqueen Masters are also both crazier than anything we got from the Master in the Classic Series.

Thanks! Neat perspective, and it might just make a lot of sense. I'm due to watch the Capaldi episodes again sometime soon and I'll start with Missy and see if I can get it to work for me to think of Missy's antics that way. That's probably a major part of my discomfort with the New Series is when The Doctor's arch-nemesis only seems to act about half as "arch" as Madame Kovarian most of the time (had no trouble taking her seriously), even though the mayhem is still there, so it would be a great thing to make peace with.

The Simm and Macqueen Masters are also both crazier than anything we got from the Master in the Classic Series. I always reasoned that the Master was mad because he had ran out of regenerations. Pratt/Beevers/Ainley/Roberts weren't normal incarnations, and this drove him insane. However, that theory doesn't work, now, as Jacobi was a new life cycle, and Simm was mad. We still don't know where the Gomez Master is in terms of incarnation number.
