I left GB due to the very one sided discussion there that literally allowed for those who don't like the new direction of the program to be called every name imaginable. When even the forum owner gets in on the name calling, you know its time to go. Oh yeah. Gallifrey Base is all about conformity. If you don't conform, you have no choice but to argue or to leave. And honestly, that gets really boring, really quickly. It's all about grinding ideas down to fit a snuffbox, there's no room to explore, swap ideas and create. It's unfulfilling. I don't think they've quite learnt yet that you can have confrontation without violence, challenge without discord. No one needs to be nailed to the wall over whether the Second Doctor wore a stovepipe hat after The Underwater Menace or not. So yeah, while there are, of course, decent people who post over there as well, I can't say I have a lot of respect for GB on the whole. The shame there is that it doesn't have to be either. It's a lot of very small people trying to make other people feel equally as diminished. It's a pity really, it's such a waste.

Yep. They don't allow for differing opinions. They follow you from thread to thread badgering you, then when you answer back they squeal about how you won't shut up about the topic and try to get you banned. Absolutely the worst of fandom there.

"Human beings, no mantter how brilliant they are, are always within reach of other humans beings." Slightly misquoted fromn The Second Doctor. Sometimes that's a blessing, sometimes a curse. Regarding GB, certain sections really are an echo chamber for a one-soded point of view. As stated above, when some (not all) of the Mods not only appear to condone this, but join in with the name-calling ... what can you do? In one of my last posts there, I pointed out this one-sided-ness and was roundly shouted down. I became the enemy for that brief time! Not a nice playground. Back when I was still an active member over at GB I remember one thread in particular where a newer member politely posted an unpopular opinion on something (I can't even recall what, it was so inconsequential), only to be set upon with post after post of insults, mockery and belittlement. This poor person tried, in vain, to respond, explaining over and over, again politely and with frankly remarkable restraint, how they were just giving their own personal opinion and it was fine that others didn't agree, but with each post they put up like that the wolves just grew in number and viciousness. I messaged two different mods expressing my concerns but received no reply from either, only to later see that one of those mods then joined into the fray, piling on with snide and backhanded comments even after the member in question has finally given up. I found the whole thing very distasteful, and I couldn't bring myself to stay quiet, so I pointed out, politely, carefully, and with civility, that the way a certain moderator was now not only allowing a group of members to all pile on some very unpleasant attacks on another member (whose sole offence was simply having an unpopular opinion), but was actually now also joining in with the verbal tirades themselves, wasn't just unseemly, but risked setting a very poor example to others who may also have an unpopular/minority opinion, and that this could prove to be very detrimental not only to an atmosphere of free and lively discussion, but to the reputation of the very site itself. I went on with the usual about how we should be able to share and discuss different points of views without resorting to insults or personal attacks, that newer members should be welcomed and encouraged, not set upon for no good reason, or considered fair game because they're not part of some clique, and that we should be able to look to our moderators to provide balance, common sense and impartiality in such matters. GB being GB my post was, of course, soon deleted in its entirety. In fact I don't think it even lasted five minutes. The insults continued until the wolves got bored, and I never saw that member post again. I sent them a PM of support and encouragement, but it was never even opened. I suspect that they left and never looked back. Can't say I blamed them. Funnily enough, every post I made over the next couple of weeks also got magically deleted, no matter what it was about, I suspect by the same mod, to the point where there was clearly no point in trying to post anything, so I quietly up and left as well. Went back a few months later and my posts were left alone, but again the way things commonly were over there, I just couldn't be bothered any more. I only went back there to keep in touch with the latest Who news and happenings, and I could find that stuff elsewhere with less unpleasantry and frustration, so I left again and haven't been back since. Can't say I miss it either, I'd only really been hanging around for quite a while out of habit anyway. So yeah, while there are, of course, decent people who post over there as well, I can't say I have a lot of respect for GB on the whole. My experience there confirms the same, and I was a member there for 8 years. You absolutely don't want to go there and say you're not sure about or don't like the recent change. You'll have them descend on you like bloodthirsty animals and harassed into silence. It is, in my opinion, a thoroughly repugnant forum.
