The River boxset arrived this morning. Happy to say cast pics and liner notes are included in this range's booklets. Good to hear! I appreciate liner notes as it makes the physical product seem more worthwhile.

I don't just want 8, 10 and 11 appearing in Diary of River Song box sets, I'd like to see a variety of Doctors turn up. 4,5,6 and 7 make appearances too. No doubt BF have already given this a lot of thought and probably have a good story reason why River can interact with many Doctors. I'm all for it given the nature of the character. She's one of a few characters that can conceivably stretch across any era of Who. I agree with previous posters in that I very much want to see River's stories stand on their own so I think there should be plenty of them that are completely Doctorless. However, sprinkling in various incarnations of the Doctor in fun and unexpected ways could be a unique element of the River series. I'm not sure if I would buy the idea that the Doctor has met her before and simply doesn't remember. River definitely makes an impression. The explanation would have to do a bit more than just say he forgot over the course of the centuries, especially if she does wind up interacting with the Doctor over many different regeneration's. Also hoping she'll have some adventures with mom and dad and I would really really love it if she had an adventure with Rory's father. That's comedy gold. That's amazing.
Imagine a River and Brian boxset.

I hope not. I'd like River to find her own feet as a range. It would rankle a bit if The Doctor overshadowed her. I can see that. Of all the current series characters getting a range, this is the one I'm most curious about. River Song is a character where, for me at least, a little goes a long way. I don't know if that is in the character's DNA or if it is a product of the way Steven Moffat tends to write his strong female characters. I suppose the question I keep asking is in a universe where we have Benny running around, do we really need River Song? But then I ask the same question about Counter Measures, UNIT and Torchwood. Well glad to say the Universe and all of time and space is a big place and I can accommodate it mentally unlike Jago and Litefootand The Paternoster gang that was just too close and too much to believe in unfortunately

Well LJWILSON started me on a relisten So enjoyed Boundless Sea and then followed on with Marvellous party and I can say it’s the first time I didn’t automatically go OH DORIAn when Alex played Bertie he was actually Bertie. The good thing is when people who don’t know the DORIAN range listen they will enjoy these first two stories unconnected with The Doctors .She doesn’t need them and these two stories confirm that individual unconnected to the Doctors stories do work with River.I do Remember McGann plays a role in the next ones and I can rememebr roughly the plots. But hey more River, more parties, more tombs, more archeology .

Set 3 is my most listened to, f6ollowed by The Tom Baker ones I have to say My Dinner with Andrew remains the favourite of all of them as it’s just so much fun and timely shenanigans that it puts. Smile on my face. But truly don’t think there is a bad box set of stories and am happy to recommend the range to friends

I went to a Marvellous Party was much better. 7 out of 10. So am interested Lj(can i call you that) what did you think of the set? Am listening to the final episode with McGann but think its a pretty solid set. The Whole scene with those wanting to profit from the TIme War is grotesque to me as a human being but is so right for the set and I find River is served far better on audio than the TV show where she was created.

1.1 The Boundless Sea by Jenny T Colgan
River Song has had more than enough excitement for a while. Deciding the universe – and her husband – can look after themselves, she has immersed herself in early 20th century academia, absorbed in writing archaeological theses. But when a mysterious tomb is found in a dry, distant land, excitement comes looking for River. Can Professor Song stop any more members of the expedition from dying? What deadly secrets lie buried within the crypt? And will British Consul Bertie Potts prove to be a help, or a hindrance?
Already six years since the first release of The first River Song Box set.I must admit The First set of stories are still among my favourites from its exciting opening moments in the tomb to its finale.I am one of those who is of the opinion that like so many other characters River was actually better served by the BF writers than her own creator.Alex Kingston was just made for the part really. It is a character that very much you could do anything with given she has such a complicated life and the first sets do not rely on River meets blah blah and i think so far the Highlight of the best of her character is The Colony of Strangers which i would class as her BEST ,No Doctor,No previous companions etc and they need to rediscover this aspect of story telling, the actress and the character absolutely deserve it.it is funny as in her first set she works with Alexander Vahalos of Dorian fame and look how well his mostly Doctorless series went.Anyways i do enjoy this box set a lot and it will be my Saturday listen through . Yes they had to throw in McGann but it was hardly necessary River can hold her own, they should have shown more faith in the character

1.2 I Went to a Marvellous Party by Justin Richards
River Song always enjoys a good party, even when she’s not entirely sure where or when the party is taking place. But the party she ends up at is one where not everything – or indeed everyone – is what it seems… Being River, it doesn’t take her too long to go exploring, and it doesn’t take her too long to get into trouble. The sort of trouble that involves manipulating other civilisations, exploitation, and of course murder. River is confident she can find the killer. But can she identify them before anyone else - or quite possibly everyone else - gets killed?
And so the adventure continues and we have a surprise in store from the last party.River in amongst the glitz and the glamour well she is that kind of gal.She meets the Rulers Of The Universe elite groups with an agenda all their own and her “Melody” Persona gets a run for her money. Its funny how obnoxious those who think they are the elite can actually be both in Rivers Universe and the world in general. This is a good strong story. This ISNT the big flamboyant River Persona,a more subdued version which i love.

1.3 Signs by James Goss
River Song is on the trail of the mysterious, planet-killing SporeShips. Nobody knows where they come from. Nobody knows why they are here. All they do know is that wherever the SporeShips appear, whole civilisations are reduced to mulch. But River has help. Her companion is a handsome time-travelling stranger, someone with specialist knowledge of the oddities and dangers the universe has to offer. For Mr Song has a connection to River's future, and he would never want his wife to face those perils alone.
There was something about the elite group that grabbed my interest and could have been further utilised in further sets of stories and i did love the Sporeships. Am continuing onto story three. From the previous tales Bertie Potts chemistry with river was very evident and once all the shenanigans with the murder are finished we have the wonderful entry of Samuel West onto the scene as Mr Song...

1.4 The Rulers of the Universe by Matt Fitton
As shocking secrets are exposed, and a grand plan for the universe is revealed, River decides it's time she took control of events once and for all. Out in deep space, a clandestine society faces off with an ancient and powerful alien force – but, for River, there's an added complication. The Eighth Doctor has been caught in the middle, and she must make sure her future husband can arrive at his own destiny with all his memories - not to mention his lives - intact...
If I had a gripe about this set it was actually the inclusion of MCGann i do love him and his Doctor but i think this would have worked equally well without him but its still a fun inclusion a wee rewrite here and there of The Timelord and Time War bits..but still a great tale and no need to use any wimples 😂I could have just done with River being the hero in her own final story
