Had a smashing time with this. Mike Tucker has written some of my favourite novels and some cracking audios but has also produced a fair amount of solid but unspectacular work. Glad to say this falls very much towards the former. Finding something new for The Daleks is a fool's errand so Mike twists a couple of ideas and makes the setting something different. We've had the Daleks crashing and taking over before, we've had them harvesting humans before...but Mike uses these aspects to serve the story rather than being the be all and end all. The story comes first here which is the right way to approach an overused monster - just do it well rather than reinventing the wheel. Having them being able to use symbiosis and the plot-device of the black petals are nice additions to the lore. We've seen Daleks prove time and again to be ultimate survivors so it makes sense for them to use such methods to do anything to keep on keeping on. There's something about the setting - the deadliest creatures in the universe unleashed on a monastery - that reminds me of the original concept for Alien 3 where that was the concept before the decision was taken to change it to a prison. Pure coincidence no doubt but a nice one for fans of the Alien franchise. Anyone in the UK can't fail to smile at hearing national treasure John Savident pop up as Pendle. Sure, he had a smaller role in The Visitation but since then John has played the force of nature that is Fred Elliot in Coronation Street and cemented his place as one of the most recognizable voices in the land. Hearing him shut "SCUTTLE MY SHUTTLE???" is a treat indeed. Colin's Doctor being so full of bluster and being played so large allows for an actor lik John to play well off him. It wouldn't work in the same way with, say, Davison or McGann. Another bit of casting that was not only good but I think fundamental to the story itself was Robbie Stevens as Boswick. I think only Kenny Smith and I seem to be Terrahawks fans on here but for anyone who doesn't know Robbie he's one of the cast members on that show, and thus on the BF audios too. He plays characters like Stu Dapples and Dix-Huit. Hearing him playing the older monk here really shows his versatility. He sounds nothing like his other roles but, importantly, is 100% believable in this role and while Constance is away he becomes a surrogate companion. On Constance, I really like what's done with her here. She's resourceful and decisive without being cold or too unbelievably adept for someone from the 40s. She's clearly, given her Bletchley origin, someone who is the best and brightest so I can buy her rising to the occasion and being a quick study yet she never gets pushed too hard just to show how wonderful our relatively new companion is. Patient storytelling and I like it. She plays off Asta very well and its a lovely relationship where Constance gives Asta a bit of confidence. Miranda's an actress who is seldom off screens on British TV, like Nicola "Liv Chenka" Walker. We really are lucky with the array of talent BF give us on a regular basis.

I noticed the Behind-The-Scenes page was updated on the web site with this. I would love to see more items of a technical based nature. Thanks so much.

That's it 687! You are fired. Back your bag and come back when you think you can catch absolutely everything.

Well, I listened to this yesterday and I very much enjoyed that story. Love the idea of a stained glass Dalek. The images of the stained glass Dalek at the bottom of this page are fun.

Finally catching up with the 2016-2017 Constance audios (after re-listening to her 2015 set). This one was a great start to the ones I'd not yet heard and it lived up to its spectacular cover art.
After Jötunn, this is the second one in a row where the guest companion-esque characters are ones I'd be happy to hear again, whether it's Asta herself or just more planetary assessors.
Onto Absolute Power!
(Also, the harvesting larynxes thing was properly chilling, and the image of the Kaled mutants hanging out in alien sheep stomachs the perfect amount of disgusting. The things that audio can get away with...)
