I think its a bit early to start talking about who will be the Thirteenth Doctor yet. It could be years before Capaldi leaves.

Well he'd be the first Doctor Who I'd shared a stage with *before* he got the part. (But not the first I'd met before he got the part.)

Apologies about pasting the article in...I hadn't realized it was in breach of copyright I certainly hadn't intended to cause any potential legal trouble.
You know, I wouldn't put it past Moffat to be twisting the truth i.e he'll write Capaldi's last episode but actually have Chibnall write the regeneration scene...
As for the 13th Doctor I don't even want to think about that yet, but I can already picture the endless arguments about whether the actor/actress cast in the role should actually be addressed as the 14th/15th Doctor due to Handy and the War Doctor...

Yeah I doubt he is ,ying, maybe I've just had too much experience from Moffat's delightfully sarcastic answers in interviews/ his DWM column. As much as I want Capaldi to stick around for a few more years, I can't help but wonder if they could actual pull off a surprised regeneration...

The ratings for the episode would be higher if viewers knew that a regeneration was coming up.

I think Alexander Viahos could definitely pull off being the Doctor, in fact i think he'd be a excellent choice.
My Alexander Viahos as the 13th Doctor campaigns begun.

Nah. To me (and I'm sure a lot of Big Finish fans) Vlahos is either Dorian Gray or slimy Bertie Potts from The Diary of River Song.
Speaking of The Diary of River Song, I think many folks would rather see Samuel West as The Doctor.

Oh I find Alex a better choice than Samuel. So knock at least one off 'many'.

I hope he stays for two reasons. One, I love Capaldi in the role, and think he still has plenty to offer. And two, I want to see some of the 'generally accepted' modern era conventional beliefs broken, so a Doctor not exiting with the showrunner, working with new people, and staying on longer than many expected would be a fine start to some of that. Doctor Who should kick against formula and conventional fan/public wisdom every once in a while, so as not to fall into the trap of turning into paint by numbers TV.

I'm not sure if that's exactly a convention of the new series. I mean, we've only had one change in showrunner so far.

And yet it seems to be taken as accepted wisdom in many quarters, all the same. Which seems a little silly to me, personally, but still...
As such, not following those wide held expectations would go a long way to showing it isn't a convention actually, it's just a thing that happened to occur last time, that's all.

A vague update on this: www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/aboutthebbc/entries/5fa5d449-0c02-4839-846e-c4a999dbaba6No idea what 'near future' means, but as Moffat has only 14 episodes left to go, and states nothing is planned, I'm going to be optimistic and assume that means the 'we' refers to Chibnall as well, meaning Capaldi, Moffat and Chibbers have come to an agreement with Capaldi signing on for another couple of years. Either that or Moffat is lying through his teeth again, and the next Doctor IS a woman and will be starting next Christmas, (maybe portrayed by Katie Hopkins) or there isn't a new Doctor because they've cast McGann as 13

This reassures me. I've been hoping Capaldi would stick around for a while.
