It would not hurt, there is a blurred line when we are talking about a sci-fi fantasy forums, the whole genre and fan base would probably dictate a large readership and contribution to a forum, at least then we could sub divide who from say DC/Marvel, fan fiction. The same is true of that spill over from gaming. Good idea

I'll see if we get a couple more opinions, but I'm minded to do it for the Titan Comics stuff and the Legacy game

Maybe for comics do Titan for the Doctor Who ranges (a board for each range and event;Eighth Doctor, Ninth Doctor, Tenth Doctor, Eleventh Doctor, Twelfth Doctor, Four Doctors event for example) and general discussion for lines like Marvel, Dc and others. For games there could be Legacy, then general discussion, since on the old forum games did tend to be discussed.

I don't like dozens of boards; I was going to start with a category for Who Comics and let people do threads by topic. There's a tension between too many buckets, too crowded buckets and forum users not using search enough.
I suspect there is no single right answer and this will change over time.
We only have just over 100 members, and are small. If we want new members we need to look accessible. Just my thoughts!

You do have a very good point. Gallifrey Base looks very intimidating because of the sheer number of categories that you're faced with when you first join up. Even now they're still making it easier to navigate. Each new episode spawns a new board which in turn can spawn at least ten individual discussions per episode. Granted few remain active after a week or two, but it does look scarily massive.
I'll amend my suggestion to playing it by ear, letting people create threads when and where they see fit (and hopefully appropriate). As admin, you'll be able to fix any problems they create. Shame I had to miss the admin line given how long I spend on here F5ing!

There was no admin line! The super-admin cast their own net!

There was no admin line! The super-admin cast their own net! I meant that I wish I had posted in that early thread when the person who created this forum gave people who'd posted in that thread admin rights when they kept asking who he/she was.

I think let's see how many threads there are.
Maybe we could add Doctor Who comics and games to the Doctor Who category and then add Comics and games to the TV/Movie category. Maybe make that a general entertainment category.

To keep things simple, I'd leave games and comics in the off-topic section and then if people do create a lot of game/comic discussions in time, move them to a separate section. One or two game or comic threads in the off-topic section don't look out of place.

Blurred lines again. The point made earlier there is a Who forum which never ceases to confuse me. Tardis style wiki thing. I gave up it literally can send you in circles. So can see the need for say Who and the rest of the world makes sense. Or Who and Them even ?

I think the Who Comics and games can go into the Doctor Who TV section that can be a catch all section for all Doctor Who related stuff (except the Big Finish audios of course)

Even Who comics and games? Well I can't speak for games, but I created a 'Doctor Who - Titan Comics' thread which should be able to encompass the various Titan Doctor Who titles. Should other comic threads start popping up everywhere, then a separate comics category might make sense, but I certainly wouldn't lump everything in to one Doctor Who category. As then you could have Doctor Who comics being discussed in one place, with Marvel/DC (etc.) comics being discussed somewhere else. Rather than create threads and sub-threads in advance, I'd wait until they are needed. Too many categories might make this place look daunting to newcomers. So I'd be for keeping it simple. Comics are off-topic to Big Finish audio discussions, so I'd leave them there until they outgrow that category.

Be careful what you wish for. It's a non-trivial chore! You've been doing a lot of work to get things in shape! And it's much appreciated. For the moment, I agree with not having dozens of boards. We can always revisit the issue if things get busier. And I totally agree that the number of boards at Gallifrey Base is intimidating. It's one of the reasons I never got involved there, even though I registered a long time ago.
