I am saving this for Monday but trust me it's one of the hardest things I have to do. Dare I suggest, you're in for a treat? At least, if the first story Somnum Sempiternum is anything to go by. The usual, always relevant, mixture of important work and Government funding continues apace, with the supernatural elements turned up to 11, producing some genuinely sinister moments. Helped as always by tremendous sound design and music by Steve Foxon/Nick Briggs, this tremendously spooky story proves Phil Mulryne is one of the best of Big Finish's excellent crop of writers. I won't drift into further spoiler territory, other than to say this was as enjoyable - if not more so - than anything in the first set, and I recommend it. Also, anyone not in possession of the first set can get it in this weekend's sale for a ridiculously low price

The whole set is rather impressive, and not for those of a nervous disposition!

I've taken my time listening to this over the past two days and it wasn't just everything I was hoping for, it was so much more. The stories were terrifyingly riveting. Dorney was amazing as always. It's not easy to play a character like Adam and not have him sound whiney after a while, but he really isn't. Louise Jamieson is fantastic as well, and I felt more for Ann and the life she leads than I did in the last set. The sound design in this was magnificent as well. This range has quickly jumped to the top of the BF ranges for me, and that is not a small feat. Well done to all.

An interesting point came up for me while listening to the last story. And really, it is probably due my personal life experience and me bringing my own perspective to it. In this story, Adam gets word of his girlfriend and daughter's car accident, runs to their side and swears that they will get through it together. And all I can think of is, "That's easy to say now, but you already abandoned them once." And I like Adam so it became a little bit of an emotional clash in my head. You see, personal baggage came flying to the surface and smacked me in the face. I really didn't expect it.

I loved this set. I loved it, I loved it, I loved it. I'll post a full review later.
I know it's a long-shot, but this series deserves a bigger audience then Big Finish listeners. Louise Jameson and John Dorney should be their on the small screen involved in spooking Britian - and beyond!

This is brilliant, fresh but with the TV series very much in mind. Louise is easily an older Anne and I have to say dorney is excellent as Adam and there are some great nods to the original series. Acting, writing and production is top notch. Favourite quote, "I'm not a bloody Jedi". The only problem I have is it's over far too quickly and we have to wait "how long" for the next set. This has been consistently good (like Survivors) and I look forward to pre-ordering series 3,4,5,10,11,12 Cheers Tony

So I am on the fourth story, and while I've liked it, I seem a bit lost. The omega and Tom crane stuff is confusing to me. For someone who never watched the show or listened to the audiobook that big finish also has, should I do any homework? I've also been listening while gardening and active, so perhaps all the answers are in there and I just wasn't fully focused. I am following along with the final episode, but it feels like there is a ton of backstory I am missing and unaware of that would help this make more sense.

Well I wasn't 100% sold on S1 but I loved S2. I felt there was a bit more variety to the stories with some genuine scares. But more importantly there was true humanity mixed in. I really don't care how many thrills you give me. If I don't care about the characters then everything is lost. Luckily that was not the case here and each every story in this box set was both scary but also managed to make me feel not just for the main characters but often the guest characters as well.
I still feel Adam is a bit more interesting than Anne. Well he gets to have the psychic powers and most of the drama thus ends up centering on him. But I do appreciate that Anne is a single middle aged woman. There is not many characters like that in fiction. And I do like the friendship that has developed between Adam & Anne. The fact that she seees Adam as the child she never had is also quite touching. I am definitely interested to see how their relationship develops and how they will rely on one another as they face more adversary from Omega.

Both The Changeling and Let the Angel Tell Thee are very good indeed, and maintain the high starndard of this second series. Both very different in their telling - whereas the Changeling was a frightening, powerful showcase for Adam, Let The Angel Tell Thee did the same for Anne - whereas both tales explored their relationship with each other, as well as telling a really strong story in their own right. In many ways, the two tales complement each other. It will be interesting to see how Awakening closes this particular chapter.

Finally had the time to listen to series 2....
I am afraid to say, I was no where near as impressed as I was with vol 1,
I didn't like all the soap opera threads running through all the stories, the plot lines were obvious and weak, Morag has lost the intrigue and become this shows sonic screwdriver to push the story on, the love interest stuff was just silly & embarrassing & the final episode was just crap....In every way from concept, execution and resolution......sorry
It's not all bad, the first half was ok, second half was a real miss fire for me.
Gone was the terrifying tales like old gods & hollow earth that made it stand out, a real dissapointment. They played the conspiracy & manipulation cards to early for me to care, if it had been a subplot for a few series I would have interest, but not series 2!
I hope, if we do get a series 3 (and I am not fussed if we do!) I hope we get back to the scary stuff that made series 1 so good, we have survivors for the soap opera tales, you need to keep this series identity.
Sorry to not be more positive,

Sorry to not be more positive, It just goes to show we as an audience are a fickle lot, none more so than me! I really loved series 2, and found it a considerable improvement over series 1. Just to assure myself I haven't changed my mind, I went back and listened to the opener, From Beyond. It was good, but nowhere near as good as anything from the second series. I agree that Awakening was the weakest of the second series, but I still enjoyed it. Perhaps we'll get a series 3 we can all agree on
