A weekend of special offers in tribute to the Seventh Doctor himself, Sylvester McCoy...
To celebrate Sylvester McCoy's birthday tomorrow, ten Seventh Doctor stories have been reduced to the special offer prices of £5 each on Download, and £6 on CD (which instantly unlock download versions, so that you can be listening even as your CD is heading through the postal service to you).
Encounter the mysteries of the black and white TARDISes, a confrontation against an old enemy or two, and a wide number of companions travelling with the Seventh Doctor...
The titles on offer are Doctor Who - Project: Destiny, Doctor Who - A Death in the Family, Doctor Who - Lurkers at Sunlight's Edge, Doctor Who - Protect and Survive, Doctor Who - Black and White, Doctor Who - Gods and Monsters, Doctor Who - Afterlife, Doctor Who - Revenge of the Swarm, Doctor Who - Mask of Tragedy, and Doctor Who - Signs and Wonders.
Birthday bundles have been set up to enable you to buy all ten stories in a single go. And for those looking to experience Sylvester in something other than Doctor Who at Big Finish, there's always Fly Me To The Moon, a 2001 title in which he teams up with India Fisher in a comedy recorded before a live studio audience and available for just £1.99 on CD.
But whatever you go for, do please join us in a hearty, "Happy Birthday Sylvester!"
Happy Birthday to Sylvester, Sophie Aldred and Barnaby Edwards too
Regards

Oh my goodness Big Finish Big Finish certainly heard my cry for a Hex sale. Be careful what you wish for my wallet says. I did have a few of these from previous sales (I've been picking up Hex audios when ever I could) but I just bought 7 others I didn't have. Still need 2 titles from the Magic Mousetrap trilogy but I am not complaining. I'll buy those at full price once my wallet has recovered from this sale. But now I just need two more audios to have all the Hex stories. When I will have time to listen to them is a new issue. And most importantly Happy Birthday Sylvester, Sophie, and Barnaby. I feel I've gotten a great gift today too.

Are there any particular recommendations or just "all of them" . Cheers Tony I'd say everything expect Revenge of the Swarm (just my opinion it a bit average considering what comes before and after it)
Also if any UK Customers want to make the Spend £50 Postage free limit and you don' have this:
www.bigfinish.com/releases/v/project-nirvana-697
(its not essential but adds a little context to Lysandra and Sally )

I have Death in the Family already (and apparently also Project Nirvana but can't remember it at all lol). So if I have to limit myself to 6 titles, which ones would be the best ? Cheers Tony

Note I looked at my purchase history, I started collecting these in 2014, a few went on sale here and there but it's taken until 2016 for these to go on sale. You may want to get these now or you may miss out for some time. Tony I'd just get the first 6 you need to listen to them in order anyways. You can buy the later titles at a later date.

Are there any particular recommendations or just "all of them" . Cheers Tony As far as the main story arc goes, here are the essential stories: Project: Destiny A Death in the Family Protect and Survive Black and White Gods and Monsters Afterlife Signs and Wonders You can choose to start with Protect and Survive, but you'll miss out on a lot of why Hex feels the way he does toward the Doctor in that trilogy as well as Lysandra's introduction in Project: Destiny. Project: Destiny concludes the arc with the Forge that began in Project: Twilight and continued in Project: Lazarus (both from the first 50, so not that expensive to get if you don't have them already). Both those stories have Evelyn as the companion, who appears in A Death in the Family. Lurkers at Sunlight's Edge is a good story that often gets overlooked because it follows the sublime A Death in the Family. It's the only story in this sale that can be considered stand-alone (Protect and Survive leads straight into Black and White while the Hector trilogy relies on backstory from Afterlife, which in turn follows the emotional fallout from Gods and Monsters) and is very light on continuity compared to the others in the sale. Thematically it makes a nice transition from Hex's emotional ordeal that gets resolved in ADitF to the Elder God stuff in the Protect and Survive trilogy. Revenge of the Swarm is pretty much Invisible Enemy with the Seventh Doctor, Ace and Hector. It's not terrible, but it's not very remarkable either. Mask of Tragedy is more interesting, set in Ancient Greece with playwright Aristophanes as the historical guest star. All in all, this is the best opportunity I've seen so far to get in on the main Seventh Doctor arc in the Main Range. If you haven't, you must get A Death in the Family. It's a wonderful story that is among the very best of Doctor Who in any medium. For stories not in this sale that may be of interest, Angel of Scutari leads into Project: Destiny (the relevant scene is reprised at the start of the latter) and is a cracking historical in it's own right. House of Blue Fire introduces Sally while Project: Nirvana is a Companion Chronicle that gives some context for Sally and Lysandra in Black and White.

Decisions, decisions. I was good with 5, ok at 6, because of the continuity I should really push for 7/8 but then I'll have to pass on Unbound Benny next week. Decisions, decisions *shakes fist* . Cheers Tony

Oh, good grief, would it kill them to put the two Seventh Doctor and Hex releases I don't have yet on sale? I already have all of the ones they discounted. I'm missing just two - The Magic Mousetrap and and The Angel of Scutari. Every time there's a sale I hope those two will be among the discounted releases. No luck so far. I may have to break down and get them at full price. (I already did get one of the other ones I was missing at full price.) But not going for full price yet. I'll wait till I catch up with my backlog of Big Finish that I haven't listened to yet. Maybe by then The Magic Mousetrap and The Angel of Scutari will go on sale.

Magic Mousetrap and Angel are also now the only two I need but I don't think I can wait for another sale. I will probably wait until I have a slower month to listen to them though.

To show Sylvester how much we really care, everyone should grab some spoons and play him a song.

As I said above, I have such a big backlog of Big Finish I bought on sale, on pre-order, or as part of a sub that I haven't yet listened to that I can afford to wait a little longer before paying full price for these two. They have to go on sale eventually, right? I've been waiting years!

Sylvester McCoy playing the spoons at a local con last year. And, no, I wasn't able to be there, sadly, though it was practically in my own backyard. I had to work that weekend.
