Well, the preview in this week's podcast sounds very good. I may have to get this. What was the preview? Was it the trailer with the two time lords or was it part of the free episode? Speaking of, the free episode is great. Get to hear Chapman doing his First Doctor a bit. They played the first 15 minutes of Across the Darkened City at the end of the podcast.

Have listened to the first two. Will write up more later, but they're quite good! The first was haunting, and he second was a proper psychological thriller. Great stuff. Will be listening to the second two this afternoon.

Downloading via the app, can't wait to get started! Love the First Doctor stories and I'm very intrigued by the Time War wrinkles heard in the trailer.

On the whole this was a very good set. I'd say the weakest episode was the opener - Fields of Terror. Across the Darkened City and Plague of Dreams were fantastic, with Plague of Dreams narrowly taking top spot. Guy Adams definitely provides us with another cracking story.

Having finished the set, I think I agree. And considering that Fields of Terror is still so splendid, that just says how magnificent the rest of the set is, really. Listening to the extras, it's all quite touching the thought that went into Plague of Dreams. Great set. Another triumph of the range

As I've only listened to Fields of Terror so far (and loved it) ... I'm really looking froward to the rest if that's the weakest . Cheers Tony

Just listened to Fields of Terror. I haven't had a huge amount of experience with the Companion Chronicles so far, but stories like these will get me interested in any range. This one struck a cord in me, though I'm not quite sure what it was about it. All I know is that I thought it was quite beautiful, and will be towards the top of my list of re-listens (should the day ever occur that I get to listen to something old because I've run out of new things ). It was great to hear from Robert Harvey (the sound designer and composer) in the interviews. It isn't often we get to hear from people like him, and I always enjoy listening to them. You can tell that this story was recorded in October last year by Robert Hands' casual mention of working with John Hurt on the War Doctor sets. I had a small pang of sadness when he talked so casually of his time working with him, as the interview was recorded before his death. An interesting mix of emotions to mark my 600th post (yes, my life is currently so exciting that this milestone seems impressive... I should get out more )

Just finished 2.2 Across the Darkened City - Oh my, that was fantastic! Steven has had such a wide range of stories with Big Finish and this is just brilliant. Peter Purves ... well, what can I say ... sounds exactly the same to me.
... and that ending! Flippin' Heck!!
Cheers

The story constantly had me second guessing what I thought was going on all the way through, and the Daleks were given the ruthlessness that they have lacked so much in the New Series in recent years. And I audibly gasped at the ending! I did not see that coming, and it was so perfect!!!

All four stories were really fantastic, but Across the Darkened City and The Plague of Dreams really stood out. If I had to pick a favorite, though, it'd be the former. It seems like each time I think I'm tired of the Daleks or something interesting can't be done with them, Big Finisn proves me wrong. Across the Darkened City really feels like a David Whittaker story. And the music for all four stories was noticably amazing. One of the best releases this year so far, I think.

Fields of Terror is a wonderful and poignant story, and it's style very true to that of Sixties Doctor Who. I hope we hear much more from John Pritchard again. Cannot wait for the rest of the set. I'm not sure what it is, perhaps it is the distinguished, veteran cast, or the slower paced stories, but there's something so very classy about these early style stories; I love them.
And yes, the estras were more than usually interesting. I found the sound design on this release very effective, and so it was nice to hear from the man behind it all.
