Personally I would love it if they released The Chimes of Midnight and Spare Parts as a book-style limited edition - I don't usually buy the CDs but I would totally buy that. I really believe that at some point BF will start revisiting key releases with remastered discs as well as updated & revised extras. I know I'd purchase redone releases of these two titles on CD, and I know I'm not alone in that. In some ways I would love that to happen, but in others I definitely wouldn't! It's expensive enough buying them all once let alone twice

I know I'd purchase redone releases of these two titles on CD, and I know I'm not alone in that. In some ways I would love that to happen, but in others I definitely wouldn't! It's expensive enough buying them all once let alone twice I bought the four Doctor Who Main Range titles with the variant CD covers twice, just to have both covers... and to keep 'the collection' going of course. I also bought a second copy of ...Ish as the orignal CD sent as part of my main range subscription had the wrong number on it. (Exchange it for a corrected one? Nah. Too sensble! Buy the corrected one as well and have two copies, each with a different number!) So collectors will often buy things again for 'the collection'. It might not make sense to 'outsiders', but then again, a lot of what I see people do in this world often doesn't make sense to me either! Special main range CD re-issues with new covers and extras probably wouldn't be everyone's cup of tea, but I'd glady take a sup from the cup. I also think it's a scandal that some of the most entertaining Doctor Who stories ever told are not available on CD anymore, so BF revisting some of the key releases is something that really should happen one day.

I bought the four Doctor Who Main Range titles with the variant CD covers twice, just to have both covers... Which 4?! And why have I not previously heard of this? Project: Lazarus has two variant covers, one with just the Sixth Doctor and one with just the Seventh Both Caerdroia and Singularity have special covers available only at the Tenth Planet convention. The Nowhere Place has two covers. The one you get is randomly chosen when you order it

Yeah, but it got creased and bent in the post, so I went and bought the proper CD. It probably was a bit anal but hey, collectors collect! I was also probably thinking (aka... a wild hope for the future) if I ever sold them I'd get more for the pair together!

I suggested it to Gary on the train back from Dimensions (the specific one of the Tenth Planet conventions which later had the Stuart Manning covers for Caerdroia and Singularity).
If I recall correctly those travelling back were me, David Darlington, Gary Russell, Clayton Hickman, Nick Briggs and Nick Courtney. And Gary was reading a draft of Twilight as we travelled.
Both covers do have both Doctors on them though. Neither has 'just' one Doctor.

Thats true, but its just about which one is more promenant. But isnt there a third one were there's both Front and Centre Doctors on the cover?

It was a good idea! So well done. As someone brought up as a comic geek long before Big Finish ever existed, variant covers were a great idea to try out. Of course, it made sense with a release like Project: Lazarus as it was two stories in one, each with a different Doctor. Pity there wasn't more of them... it would have been great fun collecting them. Don't know why The Nowhere Place had two covers though.

(Although a note to BF at the time asking for a specific cover with an order would have got you the cover you wanted I'm sure.)

So with a bit of patience while you seek some of the older releases out - and the funds of course - you could still end up buying everything. All is not lost!

There are still some great instances of variant covers, especially from DC in the past few years. One theme was movie posters (Justice League got Magic Mike), the titles reaching #52 had the cover for #1, but with the character(s) updated to reflect where they were at the publication of #52 (Green Lantern #1 had a GL Sinestro on the cover, the #52 variant has a Yellow Lantern Sinestro but in the same pose) and one month had adult coloring cover.

I just want to get the last four of the first 50 before i go on. Its just that fear o stuff going OOP while i beg, borrow and steal my way through. Especially on other series, that I want to start as well lol. Damn you Big Finish lol. Do you think that at some point, BF will reduce the prices of 51-100 to £5 like they did with the first 50, before they went OOP?

As the main range heads towards 220 there must be a limit on how much stockholding Big Finish can hold in their warehouse. So a sell off of older main range CDs is bound to happen one day... either that or BF pay for more space.

I'm sure there are, but I think comic variant covers have gone OTT in recent years. Marvel & DC especially... although they all do it. Big Finish had one variant cover - for four different releases - which is acceptable. (A few more would have been nice.) In comic book land though there could be a dozen variant covers for one issue. Some are cool, sure, but it can put collectors under a lot of pressure. Mine came in today,(#167)I had to pay for brokerage though, now just have to get my parents to set up the turn table. My Chimes of Midnight vinyl arrived today; #162. It is lovely.
