Thanks brains.
This took me two days to complete and was quite a challenge to do.
I'm pleased with the way I approached K-9's timelines since doing one for each of the four would have been very confusing.
Tim.

Have to ask what K-9 TV series is referred to in the timeline? It's the British-Australian TV series of K-9 that was shown in 2009-2010 - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/K-9_(TV_series)
It only lasted one season, 26 episodes and I wasn't sure whether it was considered part of the continuity or not.
But co-creators Bob Baker and Paul Tams stated it was after K-9 left Gallifrey during the Time War after being with the Fourth Doctor and Leela in 'The Invasion of Time'.
So I naturally assumed that K-9 MkI regenerated into the Mark 2 model from there in that TV series. Tim.

But K9 Mark I died. Wouldn't it make more sense if K9 Mark II left Gallifrey during the Time War and regenerated into K9 Mark II Mark 2?

But K9 Mark I died. Wouldn't it make more sense if K9 Mark II left Gallifrey during the Time War and regenerated into K9 Mark II Mark 2? It's probable that this was either unknown or of no interest to the writers. We can assume somebody put K9 back together again (as must have happened to K9 Mark III between the short story "Moving On" and his subsequent appearance on TV).

Even though Mark IV definitely wasn't even an idea back when it was written, Search for the Doctor is set in 2056, and has you/the protagonist inherit K9 from Sarah Jane. Since Mark III was destroyed in School Reunion, we can retcon this as being Mark IV. At the end, you give K9 to the Sixth Doctor, so we can use this as an explanation for stories with a K9 unit travelling with the Doctor in his sixth incarnation or later.
So I would move Search for the Doctor to the end of Mark IV's timeline, followed by Dimensions in Time, Storm in a Tikka (which says that the DIT K9 isn't a companion's), and Search Out Space.
Presumably he puts K9 away for a while, and following School Reunion, he brings him back out for Rose, since we see Ten, Rose, and a K9 unit in the Titan Comics backups. We later see this unit in A Rose By Any Other Name, which has Ten travelling with a cat named Rose (mourning in a weird way, considering the strips indicate this takes place between Martha and Donna) and K9.
