Hey everyone,
The Eighth Doctor! Eight's had a long life in audio, novel and comic form. Originally a Doctor with divergent continuities brought together in recent years, what take do you prefer?

I'm most fond of the Eighth Doctor as he's portrayed in the audios set early in his life. My favorite take on the character is hands down Robert Shearman's. I haven't read any of the novels (though I do have an Eighth Doctor Adventure novel on my waitlist) or the comics, so I'm a bit biased...

In all honesty, all I've encountered, which is only audio and his brief TV appearance. For different reasons I enjoy the earlier and later Doctors. His portrayal varies with placement, and I put it down not just to writers but his skill.

I have a soft spot for his depiction in the early Big Finish stories where he's enjoying himself, all the DWM comics where he has clout and his much later EDA stories where he's a passionate and deeply troubled man. The Dying Days might be the earliest and best interpretation of his character. Someone who champions life, but isn't paralysed by weakness or indecision because of it. In fact, there are times where he can be quite violent like in The Flood when a particularly obtrusive MI6 agent gives him the excuse to knock him out with the crack of his neck.
I like the portrayals that give him weight and presence rather than be off with the fairies.

I just like all Eighth Doctor, the audios are of mostly the highest quality & Paul has really expanded his incarnation as times gone by, the Doctor in Doom Coalition is far more cynical & distrustful than the excited boyish adventurer of Storm Warning.

I was never a fan of the EDA novels, although I did like the Pannini comic strips, but for me The Eighth Doctor in the Big Finish audios (Storm Warning onwards) defined the Eighth Doctor and brought him to life. Obviously having Paul McGann play the part again helped, but his main range adventures with Charley put the Eighth Doctor on the map with some great stories and fun performaces from McGann; I still love them to this day. From then, the Eighth Doctor has gone onwards and upwards. I'm not a big fan of the Doom Coalition sets mind you, but in answer to the original question, it's the Eighth Doctor on audio that I prefer.

I don't really have a preference, I've read lots of the EDA's and enjoyed most of them, (some of them-Father Time, Demontage, The Bodysnatchers The Scarlet Empress, The Year Of Intelligent Tigers, Alien Bodies, The Shadows Of Avalon etc rank amongst my favorite Who stories in any medium) , and I've enjoyed almost all of the BF audios (which made McGann my favourite Doctor), though I do prefer the scatterbrained romanticist that was the earlier 8th Doctor over the weary and more cynical later version.

Audio has a bit of an edge simply because Real Life McGann brings so much to the role, but the Eighth Doctor is my favourite one when it comes to comics and I've enjoyed most of the EDAs I've read.
