It occurs to me that there are two things missing from making them the perfect emulation of their era - Lerhbridge-Stewart and a surprise appearance by the Master. The former can be worked around, in fact so can the later, but the former is a little easier with UNIT being a big organisation and all., Lethbridge-Stewart is just off doing something in Geneva or whatever. For the Master we have "The Two Masters" to thank as we now have established that the Beevers Master spent some time being all Masterful before going all Zombeevers.
"GOOD GRIEF. It is you. Another mask?" "Not this time, no. Sadly circumstances conspired to rob me of my last incarnation."

My main complaint, I really found that I wanted this to be longer... Sigh, good writing does leave you wanting more though.

These two stories were every bit as good as I hoped they'd be and then some. Really enjoyed them!

Well, I quite liked the Ephros one. Haven't listened to the second yet.
Treolar really nails it, as well.

Just finished the first story and really enjoyed it, a lovely tribute to the 3rd Doctor era in a way I wasn't expecting.
And yes Treolar was really good, very comfortable in the role & I was never taken out of the story while listening he was always the 3rd Doctor. Katy Manning was also lovely as Jo who had some really great moments in this and I quite enjoyed Bernard Holley's character.
Looking forward to the next story.

Less than a minute in and wow Treloar has gotten really good. Haven't listened to Damascus yet so I haven't heard his Pertwee in a while but just. Wow. That's Pertwee.

The first 3DA set was terrific. Although I wasn't hugely taken with 'The Havoc of Empires' (which is strange because Andy Lane is favourite writer of mine), the performances sold it to me. Here, the performances are even better, and so are the stories. This is a great set and I hope the 3DAs become a regular ongoing thing. I thought I would miss the narration, but it was well into 'The Transcendence of Ephros' before I even noticed it wasn't there.

The Hidden Realm was also excellent. Tons of fun with a terrific cast of character. I felt I time traveled to the 70's. There were also some absolutely beautiful character moments between Jo & the Doctor. And I got a kick out of Miss Barnett.
I felt both stories were fitting tributes to the 3rd Doctor era but in very different ways. This box set was definitely a huge success for me. Right up there with the Fifth Doctor Box-set for me. Just lovely all around.

This is a superb boxset and the stories shot me right back to the Third Doctor era on TV (an era I do just about remember). The only thing that would have done it more was to have Delgado show up in person. I really did enjoy it and it shows how good Tim Treloar is, for my money he is as good as Elstob is in the Prisoner. He actually embodies the Third Doctor instead of just impersonating (as Culshaw does when he plays Tom Baker/Four). guyadams is shining at the moment in his writing for BF, and David Llewellyn's script is just brilliant. I want more Third Adventures, a full monthly range would be great - take my money! Just don't put the narration back in. It certainly doesn't need it Cheers Tony

I have no interest in the 3DA and found Jo quite annoying on the show sometimes, but that's a bit of an overeaction, what were you expecting? she's trying to recreate the voice she had as a young woman 43 years ago, it's not going to be easy, she may have voiced Jo sporadically for BF since but those weren't full cast stories so there was arguably more leeway...

Would have to be a larger than normal stamp!

If she used her normal voice people would probably find a way to complain anyway (personally I would have just stuck with the C.C format, but like I said I'm not a really a Pertwee fan), the sad truth is there are just two regulars from Pertwee's era still alive and willing to work with B.F so we are lucky to get what we do from B.F

I wonder if anyone sounds the same as they did 43 years ago? I know I don't. Katy Manning is an actress, but even she cannot replicate exactly a part she last regularly played in 1973. It's strange that a low-budget show, with CSO and sometimes pretty dire special effects managed to attract certain fans with a sufficient suspension of belief who now find it impossible to accept the effects of the passing of time. It's great that we're getting audio Doctor Who at all, especially from this sadly under-represented era and I for one thoroughly appreciate it. Paul - it's also pretty generous of Big Finish to offer the episode for free, so you could come to a public forum to let everyone know how annoying you found it.

You might want to try a different form of entertainment....you know, one you actually find entertaining.

Personally I think Katy Manning sounds great exactly like the Jo I remember. Except no even better because in the Big Finish stories Jo's character has even more things to do and is a much stronger character for it.
