I call a moratorium on all jokes and comments about the absence of monsters or anything playing on the concept in general. It stopped being funny five and a half years ago, and it only got a five minute resurgence before getting old again when this release was announced. I understand that it may seem funny, but like all jokes it gets old quickly when told ad nauseam and by so many people, especially in one place. I'm confused; what's this joke thing? We're just having a discussion about the upcoming Boxset, same as any other thread. You have to admit, the lack of monsters IS rather odd... I'm being serious here. We've all had a good laugh but can we please put this joke to bed before the box set is released? If it wasn't already old it certainly is now.

Unless you know something the rest of us don't, it seems odd that they are doing a UNIT story with no monsters.

Eh, it's still funny to me and it's part of the excitement of The Silence being in a Big Finish release, isn't it? We know it's corny. One day, we'll be so blasé about all of this.....
I'm happy for such comments to stay.

Is it even going to be possible to discuss this release on these forums? The way the conversation has been so far, I'm guessing there's not much point. Downloading now, will probably write up my thoughts sometime tomorrow.

I started listening to it last night, but I don't remember it. I think that's just because I fell asleep though.

ಠ_ಠ Halfway through now. Episodes feel a bit long in the tooth, but are generally better than previous sets in my opinion. {Spoiler}Unlike previous sets, this one feel very "current", in a way that BF rarely achieve. I don't know how far in advance they record these things, but the incompetent politician from episode 2 echoes some things Trump has said over here in the states as recent as yesterday. It's a little uncanny. That and the youtube Let's Player, the election storyline, the social media stuff, and some other bits and bobs make it feel really close to home, in a good way.
A little annoyed Carter is once again the enemy agent, once again through no fault of his own and under alien influence.
I'm also not sure how I feel about the "Vote Brexit/Trump" being an alien conspiracy.

Episode Three Thoughts: {Spoiler}Again, a lot of US election parallels, and a lot of prescience for things that have only happened in the last week or so, uh, good job BF, you're oracles.
Josh once again is an enemy agent until he manages to break his programming and be a good person again.
UNIT finally figures out the moon landing stuff, and the Doctor's involvement.
And then the Silence wipe themselves from everyone's minds, and we've still got an episode left! Also, this is pretty explicitly set in present day. Two years into the current PM's term, with three to go.

Episode one listened to. This is my first foray into the UNIT range and two things occur to me so far. The Silence, as this very thread has proved, have a great central 'gimmick' (hate that word), but they must be a nightmare to write for. Matt Fitton has done a terrific job, and they come across once again as a serious threat - the sound design, as always, is wonderful.
The second thing that has hit me is that, much like on television, Jemma Redgrave gives a varying performance as Kate Stewart. Sometimes as I'm listening, I'm wishing she would inject a little life into her character, and at other times I'm impressed by her delivery - especially in 'urgent' scenes.
Anyway, great fun so far, looking forward to hearing more.

Episode 4: A decent episode, though there's some annoying but necessary retread of the rediscovery of the Silence and yada yada. There's some lip service to these supposedly taking place prior to Day of the Doctor, but I don't buy it, personally. Overall, the strongest of the UNIT sets as of yet. If the next set shows the same amount of improvement, it'll be spectacular.

Nice to see Sam have more than a glorified cameo role this time. Josh being conditioned is becoming a familiar trope in this range however.
In the extras that the writers mention future box sets, plural. This implies there will be more after Assembled.

All puns aside, I enjoyed this set and thought the Silence were well realised on audio. I just wonder if they talked too much. I tend to find (for me) that monsters who overly talk, stop sounding like monsters. I have the same problem with the Daleks actually. They spend so much time "talking" to each other and explaining themselves, it sounds more like a conversation. Silence, Daleks, Cybermen etc should be of few words. I know it's audio and somehow it has to come across, but that can be done very well with effects or (pardon the pun) Silence. It worked exceptionally well with the Weeping Angels and could have done so with the Silence. Less monster talking and more psychological threat next time please. I realise this sounds overly picky and critical but that isn't to say I didn't enjoy it, I did very much and will have to listen again soon (no, that's not a pun). These Unit boxsets have been great and I hope there's many more to come - after all, I don't need money! Now to listen to the extras ... or have I already? Cheers Tony
