Hey everyone,
I thought this might be an intresting topic: how might the X-Men films be told in the MCU?

I don't even like to think of even the most remote possibility! I hope they are never linked!

Nope, I don't see the X-Men (bar some minor characters we've already seen) in the MCU anytime soon. The X-Men are doing very well as it is, so Fox giving the rights back is not on the agenda bearing in mind the stuff they have planned.

I think the X-Men, and mutants generally, have too much baggage and influence to fit into the MCU as it stands, except perhaps as an alternative universe. (Although I reckon they could slip the Fantastic Four in on a 'everybody forgot the two films but now they're back' basis)

Deadpool is doing very well as it is but not the main X-Men films, not by a long chalk. Apocalypse grossed a massive $200m less than Days of Future Past, and only just about made it's money back after below the line costs come off. The next X-film in the new continuity went from already being greenlit to taking a backseat to spinoffs. The only current true success in the X-Universe is Deadpool and no-one predicted that would hit so big. A lot is riding on the Old Man Logan film.

God, that's depressing. I really enjoyed Apocalypse.

I really enjoyed it too! X-Men: Apocalypse is the third highest grossing movie of the nine movies that are part Fox's X-Men franchise, so it's not that depressing. Hence my remark that I didn't see Fox giving the rights back to Marvel - for their MCU - anytime soon. They might not be setting the world on fire, but Fox are not losing money. Davy is right though, the spin-offs do have a lot riding on them; not just Logan next year, but a Deadpool sequel and even the New Mutants movie with Wolfsbane, Cannonball, Magik, Warlock etc.. probably due in 2018. Fox have a lot of mutant characters to play with, so Fox would probably hope that they'd dind another surprise success from the spin-offs, like Deadpool, for them to milk.

I haven't seen that, but in all fairness the wage bill on the last three X-Men films must have been pretty high with those stars (Fassbender, McAvoy, Lawrence etc.) so a new set of X-Men films with 'smaller' actors might make more $$ in the long run for Fox... it it succeeded. (That's probably the way they'd see it anyway.) Personally, I wouldn't really like to see a reboot just yet, but 'The New Mutants' film will be interesting, if it doesn't get cancelled in the latest shake-up you mentioned; smaller characters - relatively - and lesser known actors could kickstart a new run of spin-offs. As I said, there's a lot of mutant characters to play with, if Fox throw enough mud at the wall some of it will surely stick!

Maybe they are seeing Logan as the final one in this "Continuity".
Deadpool they'll probably keep because of its nature, they can just fit it in

I see what Davy is saying and $$$ IS the ultimate factor driving which direction they take. From a very personal standpoint though, I quite liked Apocalypse. It wasn't my favorite of the franchise--that probably would be First Class, although Deadpool is up there. I think if Fx's Legion series is a success may also play into the X-future. TV series connections are now given a lot more respect and consideration when it comes to the big screen. I'm disappointed that Hellfire was scrapped because I like that whole concept.
