When Dark Eyes was being previewed and the title X and the Daleks was revealed I wondered at the time if X related to AleX.
Had the Daleks resurrected/cloned/incorporated his DNA into a Dalek hybrid?
I would be quite happy if the next time the Eighth Doctor encounters the Daleks it is in the Time War and when he does, I hope that his granddaughter Susan is involved. I think she will have a score to settle with both the Daleks and her Grandfather.

Of course it all comes down to how good the script is, but for the most part, I'm full up on Eight/Daleks (outside of Time War stories for obvious reasons).

X and the Daleks. What a horrendous title.
Not a massive dalek fan but I'd like to see him accidentally help them. Maybe investigating some anomaly in the space time continuum which turns out to be the dalek time controller.
What I don't want is some mystery that turns out to be engineered just to trap the doctor.

X and the Daleks. What a horrendous title. Yeah, somebody wasn't being very creative with that one!

Hey everyone,
How would we like to make the Daleks their inevitable return in a future Eighth Doctor box set? Whilst engaged in some gambit cruel and effective enough to contribute to convincing eight that he will need to enter the Time War despite whatever his own people are up to, even if it is at a later date. I'll try to avoid spoilers.... I used highlighting because there are dangers with overuse of the Daleks. The biggest one is that their overuse weakens the perceived danger they bring to the table unless they are presented just right. Sometimes, it can be that everybody else dies. Other times, it can be that defeating them forces him to wrong others for some greater good. But still, the more they are used and necessarily beaten, the less of a threat they can feel. In general, BF has avoided this problem. In my opinion, both the original and revived series have fell prey to the problem - "oh no! It's Daleks! They're the most evil whatsits ever, and they're geniuses like me!", and X minutes later, "well that's you sorted. Cheerio!" Do that enough and they aren't the great menace the viewer/listener is told about. To be that menace, defeating them should always be extremely difficult and come at terrible cost. But one can run out of ideas in coming up with a cost that is terrible relative to all the other costs paid to defeat them, which costs necessarily increase per Dalek story. We've already had plenty of Daleks in BF stories, so if eight is going to encounter them at this stage, I would like to see an even bigger price paid to defeat them than that which we have already seen; perhaps a price he doesn't know he's paying when he takes the action that pays it, but which he concludes he would have taken anyway had he known. It would have to be great indeed, since he has certainly paid a number of prices, one of which is generally regarded as the paradigm of gut-punches. What can top that? I'm not sure, but I don't really want to see him interacting with Daleks unless it's something worse, something that sets the stage for his decision in Night of the Doctor. It must be greater than yet presented, but it must be less than that which drove him to use the Moment. Perhaps.....perhaps, in order to defeat them, he does something that ends up killing his hitherto mostly unmentioned family. We know he reproduced with someone at some point. We know he had parents. But we've only heard about a grandchild and a great-grandchild. What about the others? What if he either had to do something that got them killed, or perhaps worse, do something not knowing that it would get them killed but ultimately agreeing after the fact that he had to have - would have - done it had he known.

What I don't want is some mystery that turns out to be engineered just to trap the doctor. "The Daleks", "The Gunfighters", "The Smugglers", "Spearhead from Space", "The Happiness Patrol", "The Fires of Pompeii", "Into the Dalek"..... ...there's a long tradition of terribly literal titles, I'd say. But I do agree with your overall sentiment expressed at the end. At the very least, I too do not want to see it be yet another "mystery that turns out to be engineered just to trap the doctor." A thing is greater (and worse) than an endearing cliche if it's the entire plot. We've had a lot of that kind of plot.

How would I like the Daleks to return? Preferably in several years time, Daleks are cool in moderation, but too overused i.m.o, as the 8th Dr Time War stories take place in the early years of the conflict I'd rather see some different conflicts and antagonists.
